The holidays are a great time to get out and support the arts with numerous concerts, plays and performances.  Nutcracker Season returns with two different productions in Nevada County.  Clara and the Nutcracker by Holt Ballet Conservatory at the Miners Foundry is Thursday and Friday, December 8th and 9th and Sunday, December 11th afternoon (click here for photos from a previous performance).  The Nevada County Nutcracker returns to the Don Baggett Theater for the weekend of December 16th-18th with evening and matinée performances.  In addition the Holiday WinterDance show at The Center for the Arts showcases 11 different local dance studios to dance performances, Friday & Saturday, December 2nd and 3rd.  Both Music in the Mountains and InConcert Sierra have holiday musical concerts.  Music in the Mountains will have their Holiday Pops show at the Nevada County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday December 10th and 11th, with a free children’s concert on Saturday morning.  InConcert Sierra will showcase the Sierra Master Chorale and Orchestra at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Saturday and Sunday, December 17th and 18th.  Colla Voce of the Sierra Chamber presents Luminous Night, Saturday, December 10th at Grace Lutheran Church.  Legacy Presents Scrooge at the Nevada Theatre through December 24th.  Or maybe it’s time to think about your New Year’s Eve plans?  Local favorite Achilles Wheel will be performing at the Miners Foundry with Boca del Rio.  With so many things to do how are you going to choose?  And there’s plenty of opportunity to hear artists on the street at both Nevada City Victorian Christmas (12/4, 12/11, 12/14, 12/18 and 12/21) and the Cornish Choir at Grass Valley Cornish Christmas (Fridays till December 23rd).  Leave a comment about your favorite holiday concert.

I love the impromptu music on the streets during Victorian & Cornish Christmas events. You never know what you’ll hear.

So many ways to celebrate the season! Just one small correction: In addition to the Dec. 8 and 9 7pm performances, the Holt Ballet Conservatory-Miners Foundry production of Clara and the Nutcracker also has a Saturday matinee performance Dec. 10, 2016 @ 1 pm. Thanks, Erin for your densely-packed itinerary!

Erin, the InConcert Sierra concerts are on Saturday, Dec. 17th in the evening and Sunday, Dec. 18th in the afternoon. Should be wonderful with the orchestra and 70 voice chorale.
