It’s pumpkin time!  With Halloween this week I’ve been thinking about all things pumpkin.  I did a little research and have a few local suggestions to help you into the spirit.  Stop by Treats in downtown Nevada City and sample their pumpkin sundae or try a scoop of vegan pumpkin ice cream.  An Honest Pie has 2 pumpkin options; classic pumpkin pie and Pumpkin Brew, their buttermilk pie with pumpkin filling.  Look for the food truck in the Staples parking lot on Tuesdays and Thursday 10-4 and at Ol Republic Brewery on Thursdays from 4-8pm.  If you need a pumpkin pie to feed more than just yourself, stop by Flour Garden Bakery and pick up either the pumpkin tarte with gingerbread crust or a gluten-free pumpkin pie.  Think you want to make your own pumpkin treat, visit the Nevada City Farmers MarketRiverhill Farm is selling their pie pumpkins for $1.50/lb this Saturday 8:30am- 1pm.  While you’re at the Farmers Market check out Mark Einhert Organically Blown hand blown glass pumpkins or stock up on the pumpkin ravioli from Bear River Pasta Company.  Caroline’s Coffee Roasters has their seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte on the menu, but if you’re looking for other pumpkin food items check out the Pumpkin Butter from Hurley FarmsMandarin Pumpkin Marmalade from Earth and Vine or the Pumpkin Spice Tea from Republic of Tea.  Also available at Caroline’s are Rainbow’s End Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Butterscotch Cookies and pumpkin bread.  Briar Patch Co-Op has a contest to guess the weight of the giant pumpkin from local Super Tuber Farm, winner gets to take home the pumpkin!  If you’re feeling artsy and want to paint a pumpkin, Community Canvas has a mixed media Harvest class, click here for more details.  Or stop by My Favorite Things in downtown Nevada City and check out their velvet pumpkins with real pumpkin stems.  So, who’s ready for a little giveaway?  I’ve got one scoop of pumpkin ice cream from Treats and one pumpkin pie from An Honest Pie to giveaway, post a comment here on anything pumpkin and I’ll draw the winner on Wednesday, November 5th.

I go crazy for anything pumpkin flavored this time of year! Fall in Nevada County is my favorite time and place to be…all the colors, fresh produce, crisp morning air.

We were so excited to get our pumpkins this year that we got them 2 weeks ago and carved them right away. We had a fabulous experience but realize now that we jumped the gun since they’re now rotted! They didn’t even make it to Halloween! Only pumpkin pie ice cream
could make us feel better ! 🙂

Just put pumpkin into my homemade chicken soup! Love the simple sweetness it contributes. Then again, I do love the sweeter options of pumpkin ice cream and pumpkin pie!

I love all things pumpkin! When I was in high school I worked at Baskin Robbins Ice Cream in downtown Palo Alto. My favorite ice cream combination was pumpkin + black licorice. At that time the black licorice was actually black and it would turn your entire mouth black..it was hilarious when customers would taste it…pumpkin was and is a much safer bet! LOL!
