BackPorch Market
Need a picnic for a Nevada City hike or swim at the South Yuba River, then definitely stop by the BackPorch Market in Grass Valley to stock up on a great selection of gourmet foods. The sandwich special of the day, either vegetarian or meat, is simply amazing. You can either pre-order one of their new picnic baskets or stop in and pick out your favorite items. The Yuba includes two sandwiches, potato salad, chips and two chocolate chip cookies. Or maybe you want to try The Tuscan for your next glamping getaway at the Inn Town Campground. The picnic basket includes: molinari finocchiona salame and fra’mani salametto salame, two cheeses, an assortment of olives, demi baguette, pasta salad of the day and two double-chocolate walnut brownies. Finish off your meal with a bottle of award-winning local wine or a gourmet olive oil, crackers and cheese. Another great thing to check out at BackPorch Market is their selection of frozen entrees, whether you want ravioli, chicken pot pie or homemade sauce, they’ll have something to help with your next dinner party. The gourmet market is located at 135 Colfax Street in downtown Grass Valley and open Tuesday-Saturday and if you haven’t met the new owners, Erik & Rose James, stop in and say hello. And if you’re hungry… don’t worry, I’ve got one gift certificate to giveaway for $35, post a comment on where you’re taking your picnic basket and I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday, May 2nd. Edited to say the winner is Gwen.

I’m glad to see they have vegetarian sandwich options! Sounds delicious.
Yes, the veggie options are delicious… and they have other veggie options too.
Taking our picnic basket to Mendocino.
Love Back Porch. When I had a sudden need to make Tiramisu I went there to find the Ladyfingers were in the center aisle just waiting for me! Thanks for the post.
Funny how Ladyfingers just jump right out and into your basket!
I’d love to take a picnic to Hirschmans pond and sit on a bench with my hubby and enjoy the delicious food and the amazing scenery!
That’s a great option.
Thanks for the reminder about this Deli. We haven’t been recently. I think a picnic even on our back deck sounds wonderful, given the great weather we’re having.
Thanks Ingrid!
Yum! I’d have a picnic in my own back yard. <3
Perfect!!!
I think I would take my picnic basket to the top of Sugar Loaf with my sweet hubby that deserves a break and a date ♥ or to Spenceville Wildlife area to watch the baby cows and wildflowers
Baby cows and wildflowers for a date…. sounds perfect!
Love Back Porch. Everything is so fresh.
Now I’m getting hungry….
I’d probably take it to one of my kiddos’ games!
It is nice to have a few options for the grab and go.
Yum! I got a few of their frozen pastas for Christmas a few years ago, and they were delicious (and convenient!).
Thanks, Erin.
There’s nothing wrong with convenient.
Your quaint little store has fun and delicious food. I always rush to Facebook to see what your sandwiches of the day will be. Keep up the great work, thank you for bringing fun new flavors to our small community.
I wish I had taken that picnic down with me to the Yuba today!
I want to go to the river with you!
I’d love to take my grandkids on a picnic at a park!
Which park do you prefer?
Hi- i’ll be taking my picnic basket to Edwards Crossing !
Great spot.
My favorite spot to head with a picnic lunch is Bridgeport! A BackPorch Market lunch sounds like a real treat!
I’m thinking of all the goodies you’ve won over the years…. knowing you, you’ll be adding this to your list! Happy spring.
The baskets sounds amazing. Can’t wait to go on a picnic!
Writing this up did make me hungry….
To the Yuba river 7/31 when we come up for our yearly Glampng trip at InnTown Campground. Can’t wait to stop by, nice to know a go to market for lunch baskets will make our day excursions perfect.
This is probably my favorite comment (good thing the winner is random) b/c a) I love that your glamping getaway is an annual event and b) who can resists excursions while on vacation?

I would take my picnic basket to either the Buttermilk Trail or the river by the Bridgeport Bridge!!!!!
This time of the year is so special down there….
Love back porch! I would take my picnic to the lake or on a hike!
What if you went to the lake and took a hike and then had a picnic– all in one?
I’ll take our basket to Bridgeport!
The flowers right now are amazing!
Love their sandwiches! Great idea to take them on a picnic!!
Are you willing to share the cookies with me?
Of course!
I would love to take my picnic at one of the lakes off Bowman Road and enjoy it between kayaking on one of the lakes.
Always a great idea to head up the hill a bit further….
Love this market! Our picnic basket is going to bridgeport where my daughter can play in the sand right to the left of the bridge!
Great idea! It’ll be interesting to see how that river spot is effected once they start the bridge construction… but for now it’s a beautiful spot.
Wow, what a great way to take off for the river!
Agreed….
Picnic to the Yuba River. Of course!
Can’t go wrong there… and I’ve been known to take my insulated ice cream container to the river and eat Treats ice cream at the river….
id take it to the park or enjoy it on my own porch as a picnic with my kiddos.
Porch picnics are always a good option (we should tell that to Polly and see if we can make that happen?).
I’d love to participate!! I’ll bring cookies. I’m in need of some sage advice right now.
Coming out to Nevada City for Memorial Day-would love to take the kids on a hike with a picnic!
I am so excited for your guys to come stay at the Inn Town Campground (did you see the new fence for the Riverside Retro?).
The dogwood just bloomed in our backyard, a few blocks from Back Porch Market. There’s no place like home.
I totally agree that sometimes a picnic in your own yard is the best place to go. (You can have a beverage and not even have to worry about driving!).
Taking my picnic to Scott’s Flat for some paddle boarding.
That sounds fabulous….
I’d just gobble up th cookies and then find a nice sunny spot at the park to eat the sandwiches.
This is why we’re still friends 20 plus years later!
Table Mountain is perfect for a picnic right now~
That’s a great idea!
Yum! I’m taking my picnic to Bridgeport – can’t wait 🙂
I would enjoy my picnic in my campsite during my very first visit to the Inn Town Campground coming up in just over a week! I can’t wait for our trip!
Definitely a picnic on my deck while watching all the birds eat their own lunches of birdseed or sweet water or suet cake.
I’d take the basket to Buttermilk trail with Kiana and her carpool friends … tomorrow ideally .. !!
I’d take the basket to my backyard! We just did a rock wall!
I wasn’t aware there were new owners! Must go in and say hi! We would take our picnic basket to the Buttermilk trail. The weather and flowers have been beautiful!!!
Their sandwiches are so good!
