Beaucoup Chapeaux

Every Friday night, for the last seven years, local residents and European expats, visitors and tourists, have gathered together in the charming Nevada City Classic Café to be romanced by the tapas, the wine and the enchanting music of Beaucoup Chapeaux.

The award-winning quartet features Maggie McKaig, Luke Wilson, Murray Campbell and Randy McKean on an array of instruments including accordion, tenor guitar, plectrum banjo, dobro, violin, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, and even a piccolo.  Together they infuse life into jazz classics, expose listeners to folk, Celtic and European-style gypsy music, and entertain with a collection of their own songs.  Their music, as one fan shared on a note left in their tip jar, can “heal a broken heart.”’

The sentiment was the inspiration behind the group’s latest release This Music Heals Broken Hearts.

This Saturday, February 6, as part of the Nevada City Live Series at the Nevada Theatre, Beaucoup Chapeaux will perform the album in its entirety.  Over a dozen guest musicians will join them throughout the evening including Margot Duxler, Sands Hall, Kirstie Powell, and many more.

The doors open at 7:30pm, show 8pm, tickets $20, more info at Paul Emery Presents.  And there’s still time to buy tickets to A Thousand Kisses Deep, songs by Leonard Cohen next weekend.
