Celebration of Life Triathlon Raffle Giveaway
Are you training for the upcoming Barbara Schmidt Millar Celebration of Life Triathlon out at Scotts Flat Lake? The event takes place on September 16th at 9am on the Cascade Shores, with women of all abilities and ages swimming, biking and running. The money raised from the event goes to help fund mammograms at the Women’s Imaging Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and a scholarship for a local high school student who’s planning on studying in the health care profession.
The Outside Inn’s has always been a sponsor of the event, but this year we’ve decided to use the InnSide Nevada City blog to have a bit of a giveaway of some raffle tickets. We’ve got $100 worth of raffle tickets to give away and the list of prizes is amazing! Please post a comment on this blog post with what inspires you about the Celebration of Life event and on Wednesday, September 5th I’ll draw some names to have their names on the raffle tickets. The winners of the raffle will be drawn at the event, winners do not need to be present to win, but must collect prizes in person at the Outside Inn after the event. The Outside Inn office will also be selling tickets between now and Saturday, September 14th, $3 each or 2 for $5.

Stories of this event have been inspiring me for years. Looking forward to finally participating this year!
It is amazing to see women of all ages and abilities come together for one purpose. I have only heard great things about this event from participants and supporters.
What an accomplishment to finish a tri, all these women are amazing!! It takes a lot of hard work and effort and a support system from your friends and family. I wish you all the best of luck!! You have inspired me to keep swimming and running 🙂
what inspires me most about the Celebration of Life Event is the gathering together of strong, powerful, dedicated, determined, focussed, life affirming WOMEN!!! for the purpose and intention of giving their energy for a greater good. the experience of union and cooperation far outweighs any competition that may occur. this is a microcosm of what needs to happen across all the rest of the planet – gathering together for healing and goodness, as well as to affirm our strength and the power to love. it is so inspiring that we women here in nevada county have stepped up to create this wonderful event year after year. xoxo karen stone
I couldn’t agree more!
Amazing event! I am in awe of the huge group of participants each year and of the funds they raise for a great cause!
Thanks for a chance at some fabulous prizes too!

Thanks Denise, it’s an inspiring event… and yes, some fabulous prizes.
This is a great event and any woman can do it. Whether you choose to do it on your own, with a team, or even the walk/run you’ll be inspired and it’s a fun way to support our community. I am in awe of everyone that participates.
Thanks Valerie, looking forward to getting out there and cheering them on again with you.
What a positive gathering of inspiring women! How cool this is in our town! I’m excited to learn more about it (and to possibly win some awesome raffle prizes)…
Such a great event!!!
Wow, amazing blog. Thanks for asking for inspirations. My inspiration began during my 1st year, 13 years ago. I was 2nd, 3rd & 4th guessing my ability to complete the triathlon. Mid way through the run, as I approached the store, I considered turning left and heading to the Finish line instead of completing the remaining 2 mile trek. There was a wonderful, inspirational woman standing alongside the road chanting the usual “You Go Girl!”, but she took it one step further. She reached out to High Five me and said “Thank you, thank you for what you are doing”. Of course the tears began flowing and I completed my 1st (but not last) BSM triathlon. That statement has become one of my life-long memories & is my constant inspiration.
Please do not add me to your raffle drawing. Thank you for your continued support and your wonderful blog.
How fun!! You all are SO great at supporting this amazing event. What strikes me about this triathlon is it is true to word — celebration of life. There is so much vitality, spirit, rooting each other on, goofiness, heart, and cheer. I’m planning on my 2nd year this year — and i find the only competition i feel is my own (wanting to beat my own time) — but from all others, just PURE encouragement!!
I love how every year I’m inspired by the true diversity of women… ages, sizes, goals, abilities, that come out and have fun together .(Not to leave the guys out, I love all the guys on the course too that help out!) I think part of what is great about the BSM is that so many women come together prior in groups of 2,3, 5,10 to train that it brings health and joy long before the actual event. I didn’t know Barbara, but I imagine she would have loved that.
Age knows no bounds!

Great pictures, hope you can make it out again this year to capture some of the energy.
Am I too late? Beautiful post, beautiful women…I almost feel selfish hoping to win!
Sheila, we’re all supporting a good cause, if you win a raffle ticket and share the love, you might help someone think about getting a health check-up or inspire someone to achieve something they hadn’t thought of, so don’t feel selfish.
When I first saw the postcard advertising the event, the faces of accomplishment and celebration spoke so strongly to me that I sat down and registered – no questions asked! As I trained (from ground zero!) I starting asking a lot of questions… like – what was I thinking?! But right now I couldn’t be happier – going from thinking “impossible” to “I can do this” – and so can you!!
I want to thank all the volunteers that work so hard each year to give women the chance to feel the accomplishment of doing something so powerful!
I’ve had the pleasure of training with some of the tri’s best athletes. Oh, no, I’m not in their league, but that’s what is so inspirational to me. Even the top competitors foster a support system of encouragement to participants at all levels – to just get out there and do their best. I regret that I won’t be entering this year but I’ll be out there getting a big dose of inspiration from the amazing women who are. I look forward to 2013.
I have several friends who participate in this event every year. Obviously the reason for this Triathlon needs no explanation of why it is such a great event to put on annually, but it’s the participants that inspire me the most. They have so many different backgrounds, age ranges and reasons for participating. Some do it because either they, or someone they love has been diagnosed with cancer; others do it because they want an opportunity to help and do things they want to feel the energy of something very special at this event, and there are those who do it because they have their own health issues that aren’t cancer related but want to prove to themselves and to the illness that they CAN do it. I love the stories that come back after each event and look forward to hearing them again this year.
What inspires me most about this event is trying to keep up with my mother, who continues to impress everyone with her grace and commitment and super-fast swim, bike and run times!
These posts are all so beautiful! Go girls!
Thanks for keeping us all updated on the MANY things that keep our community alive and interesting!! Thanks Erin.
Go ladies! What an awesome event!
The triathlon is a great event that brings the community together and provides motivation to exercise during those hot summer months. Good for you Erin for supporting it with raffle tickets!
I am brought to tears each time I attend the BSM triathlon. I have attended for years to cheer on those who are close friends who have overcome cancer. As a breast cancer survivor myself, this event hits very close to home for me. I am motivated and inspired by all of those who participate and support such a local and worthy cause.
So fun to read all these wonderful, inspirational comments about this awesome event!
