Briar Patch Co-op Cooking Classes
Briar Patch Co-op Community Kitchen took over In the Kitchen’s commercial kitchen last year and this evening I had the opportunity to take a cheesemaking class from Mielle Rose. I mean who can turn down an evening dedicated to sampling fresh made cheeses? We learned some tips and sampled paneer, ricotta, queso fresco, feta, creme fraich, fromage blanc and labneh. If you’re looking for a fun week day activity check out the upcoming class schedule, upcoming classes range from Paleo diet, aphrodisiac foods for Valentine’s Day, quick and easy healthy cooking to Vietnamese food. Life is all about learning new things, or perhaps dusting off some skills you haven’t put to use in awhile. So, I said I’d make some of the cheeses we made tonight, so here’s my public declaration, you can ask me how my homemade ricotta and labneh taste next week. What’s your favorite new cooking skill? And the winner for the Summer Thyme’s giveaway is Erin Dixon. © 2014 InnSide Nevada City, © Photos by Erin Thiem
Homemade ricotta makes amazing lasagne with homemade pasta and your favourite meat sauce! Cheese making is fun, and the kids love helping out.
Love the idea of making the fresh cheese during the cooking process.
I took a class at this location when it was Wendy’s and it was fun and a great space. I’m sure that Briar Patch will continue the fun and education. I just took a bread making class locally so I’m planning to hone my {very} rusty bread making skills in the near future.
Always good to brush up on new skills or learn something totally different, and really, the opportunity to eat what you’re learning about is fun too!
