How are you going to celebrate Earth Day?  There are a lot of great local events this week to help you appreciate Mother Nature.  Go check out the State of the Yuba, Wednesday, April 19th, and find out how you can get involved to protect the watershed this summer season.   The event takes place at the Peace Lutheran Church in downtown Grass valley, click here for more info.  Or stop by Sierra College Nevada County Campus for Turning Over a New Leaf, on Thursday April 19th from 9:30 am-3:30 pm for the community college Earth Day celebration.  SYRCL will be there chatting about their Earth Day Clean-Up, upcoming restoration opportunities and the launch of our 2017 River Ambassador Season.

If you want to be inspired to Encounter Nature, check out some of the events that Bear Yuba Land Trust is doing this spring.  If you want the kids to learn more about the natural wonders of our community mark your calendars for the first annual Bear Yuba Land Trust BioBlitz (Friday and Saturday, May 5th and 6th). It is Citizen Science where people of all ages and abilities capture a biological snapshot of an important landscape on a single day.  During BYLT’s event, participants will photograph or take notes of all the plants, animals, fungi and other organisms they see. All this data is compiled, uploaded to the iNaturalist database, and becomes a permanent record to help land managers track the health of plant and wildlife habitat over time.  Or if you’re looking for inspiration to get outside, check out the Folk Trails Hiking Club/BYLT 52 Hike Challenge, there’s a meet up this week (April 18th, 5pm, Ol Republic Brewery) to help connect you with other folks in the community who are challenging themselves to get outside every week this year.

BriarPatch Co-op welcomes you and the kids to stop by the store on Saturday, sunflower seed planting, Earth Day flag painting, write a letter to our Earth for seed packs and Wildlife Rehabilitation & Release And while you’re there you can take advantage of their bulk foods sale, bring your own container and stock up!  LeeAnn Brook Fine Art Gallery is having an artist reception for her new Where On Earth show Saturday from 4-6pm.

Carolines Coffee always gives you a discount if you bring your cup, but this Saturday, for Earth Day, you can get $1 off your beverage if you bring your own mug.  And don’t forget Carolines Coffee sells reusable coffee bags, so if you BYO you can also get a discount on your coffee bean purchase.

Plus, if you haven’t heard, there’s a new event called The Blue Marble Jubilee which will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2 -7 pm at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. A colorful, village-style one-day festival, the Blue Marble Jubilee is an Earth-centered event to inspire, educate and empower people to make a difference in the community and our world.  In addition to a Wild & Scenic Film Festival screenings, check out the kid friendly activities, plus there’s a whole afternoon full of entertainment (Izzi Tooinsky, Haute Trash, Achilles Wheel).  Get inspired, activated and involved this Earth Day season.  Want to win an adult ticket to The Blue Jubilee?  Post a comment on this blog post on your favorite way to celebrate Earth Day and I’ll announce the winner on Saturday, April 22nd.  And the winners of last week’s blog giveaways: the pair of tickets to The White Snake go to Jenn Palmer and the winner of the coffee and a cookie giveaway is Cathy Stewart.  *Edited to say the winner is Amy.

Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! I’ll be there on May 5th to pick up and enjoy all of the things. Thank you, Outside Inn, Pickle Pottery, Foxhound and Treats. You’re all my favorites!!! My best way to celebrate Earth Day will be to implement a plan on how to up my game on reducing my carbon footprint. Reusing my new coffee mug from Pickle Pottery, instead of filling up with a new cup, will be part of that plan!!!

It’s great that we are still celebrating Earth Day. I remember the first one – of course barely. 🙂 I try to celebrate every day.
