Spring at the historic Empire Mine State Park is a great place to visit for all ages.  The park is open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm* and located 5 minutes from downtown Grass Valley.  Step back in time and see an important park of California’s history.  This Sunday Empire Mine is hosting a Mother’s Day Spring Open House from 11am-4pm.  Check out the Empire Cottage and meet docents in period costumes acting out living history from the Gold Rush days.  The Mineyard will be full of lots of activity, check out the mine shaft or the black smith shop.  If you can’t make it on Sunday, click here for their daily tour schedule.  The State Park, which was once home to one of the richest gold mines in California, operated for over 100 years, before closing in 1956.  Definitely stop in the Visitor Center to see the secret room scale model of the mine shafts, which cover 367 miles of underground mine shafts.  What’s your favorite part about Empire Mine?

The evening events at the park are so beautiful. The trails are also a great enjoyment.
We are blessed to have this park in our county.

Love the Docent’s tour and we take friends/family when they visit. It’s a beautiful park, especially in the spring.

The gardens are nice and the wooded park and trails. I have to say my least favorite part is the entrance to one of the old mine shaft – talk about acrophobia!
