Evan Strong Gold Medal winner, Sochi ParalympicsNevada City is hosting a parade for local Evan Strong, who recently won a gold medal at the Sochi Winter Paralympics.  Evan completed in the snowboarding event, for some highlights click here, or check out his recent interview on Sports Illustrated.  To learn a bit of background about Evan check out the Sports Illustrated Rising Star profile that was done earlier this year.  The parade will be on Tuesday, April 1st at 6pm down Broad Street, Nevada City, with continued celebrations afterwards at the Miners Foundry.   “It’s going to be a rock-awesome parade and celebration that was amazingly put together by a community tour de force in less that two weeks! We will have a smashing parade down Broad St where gold-medalist Evan Strong will lead us to the Miners Foundry for live music, a review of Evan’s award-winning race, autographed snowboards, yummy food and drink, an incredible auction, and even some autographed Wheatie boxes of Evan, and a huge cake for the community” says former Nevada City mayor Reinette Senum.  “The real story is that this is how a community celebrates success of one of its members and in the process raises money for great causes like FREED Center for Independent Living and Adaptive Action Sports” said Evan’s father Roger Strong.  Kim Blix, a FREED Program Coordinator, said that they are appreciative of being a beneficiary of the event,  but, “we are really trying to focus on Evan and his accomplishments, we were just excited to celebrate a person with disabilities winning the gold!”  So, Nevada County, clear your social calendars for Tuesday evening, we’ll see you out on the streets to help give a big small town welcome home to Evan and his family.  And the winner of the HAALo giveaway is Liza.
