Every year the Nevada County Farm Bureau organizes a tour to showcase some of the local agriculture in our community.  This year the tour included Forster Herb Garden, Cone & Hill Christmas Tree Farm and Naggiar Vineyards and special guest speaker Nevada County Free Range Beef’s Jim Gates.  Everyone agreeed that supporting our local farmers is benefical on many different levels, from fire prevention, quality of food to creating jobs.  While all the farmers agreed that it is extremely difficult to be a farmer, Jim Gates sumed it up well when he said he loves his job “every day is a new adventure.”  Support your local farmers, either by shopping at a farmer’s market, subscribing to a CSA or buying locally grown products at Briar Patch, California Organics or SPD.  You can access the Nevada County Farm Guide online here, think local first.

We appreciated everyone that came out to our farm, Cone and Hill Tree Farm. Everyone was so nice and pleasant. They all seemed very interested on how we ran our farm. A Christmas tree farm is doesn’t look real good this time of year but everyone seemed to take that into account. Thanks to the Nevada County Farm Bureau, Jeff and Roger and all that helped to put this tour together. I think it really is nice to show off what there is in Nevada County. We are a diverse and an awesome county.
