Fire Safe Council Spaghetti Feed
Are you fire safe? Many thanks to the fast response time yesterday by countless local and state agencies to fight the fire in Nevada City. The 5 acre fire started Sunday late afternoon and was 100% contained by Sunday evening. Nevada City Fire Chief Sam Goodspeed said they had “air tanks, helicopters, fire engines, hand crews and volunteers.” Kudos to YubaNet.com for keeping locals informed on the updates. Fire Safe Council of Nevada County is having a Spaghetti Feed fundraiser on Thursday, September 11th starting at 4 pm at Humpty Dumpty restaurant on Main St in Grass Valley. Tickets are $10 with seatings at 4, 5, and 6pm. The event will commemorate the 26th anniversary of the local catastrophic 49’er Fire which destroyed 312 structures and scorched over 33,000 acres in western Nevada County. The fundraiser provides funds to match grant dollars for the Fire Safe Council, a non-profit, local volunteer organization dedicated to making our community safer from catastrophic wildfire through fire prevention education, fire break clearing projects and creating Firewise Communities. Sam Goodspeed recommends supporting the fire prevention “chipping program, outreach and education” or donating to any of the local volunteer fire departments in Pear Dale, North San Juan, Rough ‘n Ready, for example. And since the Outside Inn loves to support local organizations, we’ve got 2 tickets to giveaway thanks to Ingrid and Warren Knox. Please post a comment here if you’re interested in attending the spaghetti feed, winner will be announced on Wednesday.
