Got Beer?
Are you a beer fan? Nevada City has a lot of great options for local craft beers. Matteo’s Public has 10 draft beers on tap, some “local and not-so local,” says owner Matt Marguiles. “We’ve got local beers from Three Forks and Ol Republic on tap, Auburn Ale House beers, plus four trappist bottled beers.” Jernigan’s Tap House hosts a pint night every Wednesday from 5-10pm featuring one of their 18 craft beers on draft. Ol’ Republic Brewery is a great place to try locally made beer, open 7 days a week below SPD. The commercial brewery with a tap-room welcomes you to bring your own picnic or enjoy one of the local food trucks. Take your Ol Republic growler for a refill on Tuesdays and get $2 off. Three Forks Bakery & Brewery in downtown Nevada City brews California craft style beers with “a nice balance of hops and malt that’s not too hoppy,” says co-owner Shana Maziarz. Starting on Wednesday this week Three Forks will have a Chinook Red Ale on draft made with 100% Chinook hops with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting SYRCL. And if you’ve decided you love beer so much you want to brew your own, check out the Sierra Moonshine Homebrew Supplies. They offer homebrew, wine, mead and cheese making supplies. “We think of ourselves as the on call beer specialists,” says Anthony Schoensee, co-owner of Sierra Moonshine. “We are open 7 days a week and happy to help customers with their beer crisis or fermenting questions.” And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the annual Music in the Mountains Sierra Brewfest, Saturday, September 5th. So who’s heading to a happy hour for a beer? What are you favorite local beers? Leave a comment and share.
