The Outside Inn’s InnSide Nevada City blog is excited to share our end of the year giveaway! All year-long I showcase, spotlight and share exciting things to do in Nevada City and Grass Valley. Six years ago a little end of year basket came to life on its own. The Grateful Giveaway, Ultimate Giveaway, Epic Giveaway, the Crazy Giveaway, InnSide Nevada City giveaway were a lot of fun; if you have time I highly recommend reading the comments. This year the crate has grown to include 70 different businesses and is valued at just over $3000. Can I say, yet again, how amazing our little town is? The time I spent reaching out to local businesses and organizations leading up to this giveaway really reminds me how fabulous our community is and how thankful I am to call this place home. When we opened the Inn Town Campground last year I really grew to understood its success is because of the support of the entire community. This year the collection of goodies means even more to me, because it really showcases how many businesses, organizations and individuals in our community are excited to be a part of the blog. This prize is a really great over the top way to say thank you to the entire community.

It’s too difficult to choose a favorite photo, but the ones with quiet, empty streets appeal to me because they look like an open invitation to explore! I signed up for this blog because it reminds me what a lovely place Nevada City is, and that it is just up the hill from Rocklin!

I love how there is so much to see and do. There is always something going on and always something to participate in. Living in Roseville, wishing I could live in Nevada City… yet, feeling like I’m part of the community by participating in all the year round activities!!!

Thank you. It’s a genuine love of this community, so yes, it all takes time, but I get such joy out of the whole thing (at least that’s what I remind myself when I run out of that precious time).
What I love about The Outside Inn blog is the community that it builds. There are so many places to go for information on all of the amazing events going on in Nevada County, but I find that the Outside Inn is consistently highlighting all of them and taking the time to honor the talent and commitment we have in this county. My favorite post from this year was about the Day of the Dead Folk Trails Cemetery Hike. I was lucky enough to attend that event and I thought it was so unique and wonderful. The work that Matt Melugin and his team are doing to restore our cemeteries and honor forgotten people of Nevada County is fascinating. I am thankful to Jesse Locks for getting people out for not only fitness, but to take back an interest in our history. I was amazed at how little I knew even having grown up here. When I think of the Outside Inn blog, I think of a hub that is bringing us all back to our roots.

We live here now in part thanks to your blog — your posts convinced me that Nevada City/Grass Valley was what I was looking for: a small town with charm and lots of interesting things to do. We moved here almost 4 years ago, and this area has met and exceeded all my expectations — there aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all. But best of all are the people we’ve met here — wonderful, talented, generous, kind people. I was looking for the perfect place for me, and I found it. Thank you, Erin, for your part in that!

Empire… ha ha. But the campground is indeed an amazing place and I should probably write about it more in the Outside Inn’s blog. Never too early to plan a summer camping adventures? Or rent a RV and try it during the winter… or go glamping with girlfriends.

My favorite thing about your blog is that as a single mom I can always find an endless amount of things to do with my son for each season!!
All I can say is that my kiddos have not always loved being dragged on some of these blog research trips… but my 12 year old keeps telling me I need to write about the skateboard park in Grass Valley… so I guess we’ll keep up the fun– even as they get older.

Well there’s certainly no shortage of things to do– sometimes I wonder if the town ever takes a week off.
I’m not a local of the area, but it didn’t take long after my fiancé and i stumbled on this beautiful little gem on a spur of the moment back road trip to fall in love with it and all it’s beauty and nostalgia. So much so we’ve decided it will be our next place of residence.
We visit at least 5 times a year and love coming in the summer with the kids to enjoy the beautiful Yuba River and all it has to offer. And my favorite time to visit is in the winter time during the holidays, the Victorian and Cornish Christmas’ are so fun and delightful! Thank you for all your beautiful pics that allow me to feel like I’m there all year long!!!
So happy to hear this…. spur of the moment road trips are my favorites (we’re not always so organized to plot and plan things out).

Every summer we go to the Sivananda ashram for family week and stay at Inn Town Campground for a night or two. We explore Nevada City based on your blog posts and staff recommendations. However we have never explored DT Grass Valley, your post here https://visitnevadacityca.com/blog/downtown-grass-valley.htm/ made us want to explore that area much more in summer 2018. Thank you , your dream and business really is a piece of magic for my family each year.
I love the Outside Inn and their blog. I liked that they helped Sunset magazine pick Nevada City as their cover story for “Best Places to Live 2017” . I love their blogs that tell what’s going on in town. My favorite picture is of their produce exchange. Our apple pears were in some of their baskets. We had too many. It was nice to be able to share them with others.

Having just moved here a couple years ago, the outside Inn blog was one of the first online sources I used to get to know the community on a deeper level! It’s a great depiction of how close & nurturing this community is!

Wow, this is just awesome! I’m new to the area and I’m still discovering all the wonders around the town and what it has to offer. I’m in awe. I started following Outside Inn on instagram and saw the post about its halloween setup. I knew I had to take my one-year-old kid to it and it was just terrific! She had so much fun watching the lights and she thought the ghouls were laughing. I’m now discovering the blog and will spend more time reading it. Erin! This is so great! Nevada City is my “secret” place I want to live. We drive up there often, and I feel so at home.
I found you a few months ago on Instagram, via the campground. I thought: “What a great place for me to get away once my van is fixed!”. I was looking for a place not too far to drive for some SPIRIT/ME time :). One day I told a friend at the library about it, and it turns out we have a friend in common who praises you highly! Since then, I have been following you on Instagram, and love all the things you do to pull together your community. I love Nevada City. What an amazing City we live in. I love walking downtown and how so friendly all the people are here. I am so happy to raise my children here.
To be honest, I haven’t read your blog, so I can’t answer the questions you asked. What I can tell you is this – we have gone to Nevada City for a date day and we absolutely lived walking around the town and supporting local businesses. In fact, we both look forward to going back. This year, we celebrate 10 years of my Beloved being cancer-free, and are also getting ready to celebrate the first Christmas without my Dad (who passed away on November 18). This has been a rough few weeks, so a trip to Nevada City in January is definitely on the schedule.

I have just discovered this blog! I am already a FB friend of the Outside Inn. Before I moved to Grass Valley I stayed at the Outside in while I was exploring the area to look at homes to buy, which I did, in Alta Sierra! What I have been enjoying immensely is following the stories on the development and progress of the Inn Town Campground! Keep the campground stories coming! On day I am going to treat myself to a Glamping Cabin!
This place is oozing with charm and the whole thing makes me nostalgic for something I never have experienced, actually. How do you do that?!?!
Some of my most special memories are of my family spending time in Nevada City. The blogs and events that are near & dear to my heart are sunny mornings spent at the farmers markets and the dreamy children’s festival. Getting a chai tea latte and window shopping. Adored when the pages of my daughter’s favorite story book Last Stop on Market Street was posted in the store windows. A don’t know a more charming town.

When I first moved to Grass Valley, this blog is how I got to know about all the great things Nevada County has to offer. I met new friends with common interests and grew my love of photography by capturing my adventures to the places the blog recommended on camera. I moved “down the hill” a hear and a half ago, but I built frienships there that I hope will last a lifetime. I heart Nevada County.

I’ve never actually visited Nevada City. I first heard about it when I was looking for places to stay in our vintage trailer- on an adventure with my husband and daughter. But by reading this blog and following the Inn Town Campground instagram, I feel like I know more of the town than I should! Our little adventure was cut short by me getting pregnant (). Growing up in this town it is easy to forget how special. I love seeing your posts and pictures because it inspires me to get out and see things again. This summer I finally tested myself to a night at the Outside Inn. I loved sitting in the creek area and drinking wine and being about to walk downtown. I can’t wait to do it again.

What’s there not to love about this blog?! I lived in Auburn and Foresthill for quite some time and would visit Nevada City; while training for my yoga certification I visited Ananda village and we take our annual family portraits at Empire Mine – there is SO much to NC. Yes, you can say I am in love with Nevada City and I enjoy reading and learning about local artist (I’d love to snag a mug from pickle pottery – I learned about the artist through this blog and it’s also one of the prizes I see listed) and events. There so much more to discover about NC. This blog makes me feel connected to the community and the outdoors. Honestly there’s not like living so close to nature. Having moved to Rocklin, I ache to move back north, so reading this blog evokes nostalgia and keeps me going back to the area for visits. We hope to move back north this coming summer and Nevada City/Grass Valley is on our list.

I love that we recommended camping with you to friends last summer and they had a blast! The movies at night, the non smokey camp fires, the kid friendly scene – all appreciated!
I’m sure if you gave the prize to your family, they might scream “foul”, but i can try anyway.
What makes Nevada City so wonderful and unique is that it’s independently cohesive. Every town in America has a “historic business district” that people try to restore and make a destination again. In so many cases the efforts fail, and confused chambers of commerce and city councils come up with a new plan. Nevada City has worked hard for years to manifest what exists here today. But it was bottom-up, with dedicated entrepreneurs taking chances and committing to the sacrifice and investment needed to make a community like this. Not all succeeded, but each business kept improving the feel, and now, it seems like a dream. The InnSide blog is an example of this. Independent, personal, and yet still focused on not just making the Outside Inn better, but in making the whole community better. As great as it is now, the best days for this blog, this community, and the people that visit are yet to come!

I am so excited to follow this blog! We just moved to grass valley and although we have spent some time in the area throughout the years, including getting married at the Miners Foundry in 2012, we don’t know a lot of the local ins and outs. I had no idea there was a campground, and so many arts and crafts fairs! I will need to do some catching up on the blog! Merry Christmas!

I became increasingly interested in eco-friendly travel after staying at Bukubaki Eco Surf Resort in Peniche, Portugal over the summer. I told them that they should trade accommodations with Outside Innto experience Nevada City while you spend a few weeks at their resort. (Just a thought)

I moved to Hawaii a few years ago and love your blog for keeping me up to date on what’s going on around town. It’s great to see beautiful pictures of home and of all the events I loved attending when I lived there. But I have an idea. That’s a lot of gifts for one person. What if the winner put all the gifts in a lottery and people could pay $10 or $15 for a chance to win one gift at random. Then the money collected could be donated to a good Nevada City cause.

My husband and I visited Nevada City in March for the first time and stayed at the Inn. I love the aesthetic of this blog so much, it is welcoming, user friendly, and it always tells me interesting tidbit about whats going on in my hometown. Its such a fun and easy way to keep a finger on the pulse of home.

I was lucky to find this blog immediately after moving to the area. I have discovered so much to do and enjoy. My extended family, who has lived here over a decade, comes to me when they need ideas! We were also very excited for the Inn Town Campground and stayed in a tent cabin on opening night! Thanks so much!!

How lucky I am that I grew up in Nevada City. Many many fond memories of this town growing up from The 4th of July Parade to seeing Santa at The Elks Building on Pine Street, swimming in the pool at Pioneer Park, and also riding my bike alround town. How lucky I was. I am not fortunate to live in Nevada City now, but I do visit often. Nevada City will always be my hometown town. Merry Christmas

Nevada City has always been close to my heart. It’s such a special, eclectic place. Back in the day my grandfather bought an old place on the ridge and I’ve been coming up multiple times a year to visit ever since. The thing is that up until the last few years my experience of all that Nevada City has to offer was pretty limited. Your blog has opened my eyes to all that Nevada City has to offer. Every time my heart yearns for Nevada City and I plan on making a trip, I check your blog to see what fun events are going on around town. A couple years ago, your blog highlighted Victorian Christmas and my fiancé and I decided to try it out. We brought our dog and we had such a lovely time. I always enjoy the gorgeous photos of the Yuba that you post too. Often times in the summer those photos inspire spur of the moment road trips to Nevada City. We also decided to stay a night at the Inn Town Campground due to your blog posts just because we wanted to experience it. We had a great time. Keep up the great work! Your blog is the highlight reel of Nevada City in my eyes.

Your blog and IG drew me in in early 2017. Since then, our family has visited Nevada City 4 times – from the Bay Area. We love the seasons and beauty of NC and Grass Valley. Thanks so much for the nudge to checkout a new (to us) locale!
Nevada City Farmers Markets are some of my favorite Nevada City events. The amazing, hard-working farmers and vendors show up early to present some of the very BEST produce, foods, flowers, gifts imaginable! I live in walking distance to the markets and after buying my baskets full of produce and a fresh-made lunch, I enjoy sitting in the courtyard with community members (and their dogs) listening to sweet music from local talent. I even meet out-of-towners sometimes – some have walked to market from the Outside Inn Campground and I love hearing their thrilled experiences of being spoiled with goodness in our hometown, NEVADA CITY!
Oh, Outside Inn… Our one stop shop for local activities, news, and who’s whos. Where to go and how to get there. We love you.

What would our small quaint community do without Erin…………….Thank you so much for all that you do to provide us with constant photos, the latest happenings in town. I have lived in Sacramento my whole life and had NEVER been to Nevada City until I went to Inn town Campground last year. Fell in love with the campground and the city. We were actually there when the Christmas picture of Erin and her family were taken on the Thanksgiving weekend. We love coming here and it will be a regular trip for our entire family every year, usually 2 or 3 times. Erin and staff do a great job !!!
I love that you mention when we took the holiday photo. Last year someone posted a comment about watching us take the photo for the giveaway post (in the middle of the street) and it just reminded me that someone is always paying attention! Hope you guys come back to the campground, we look forward to having you… this prize would certainly help motivate you!

I am so excited to discover your blog! I just moved here a year ago. Ive been so busy getting settled and tying up business in the Bay Area that I’m only just beginning to delve into this amazing community that brought me here in the first place.. I tell veryone about the Outside Inn. It’s charming, has character and a feeling of home. I was so impressed with the baskets for local produce outside and all the personal unique touches. I tell eveyrone to stay there. In the meantime, I’ve been coming to this community every year for the last 34 years, attending the CBA Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. Since it’s held a few days past my birthday, I have spent many years poking around in shops, eating and exploring my way through the area. I truly am delighted to join this community adn learn more about whats happenoign through your blog. THANK YOU for creating such a wonderful experience, Innside and Out!

I have been following your blog for several years now and I look forward to reading it. I love your passion and spirit. So real and genuine. Nevada City and Nevada County could not ask for a better unofficial ambassador. The overwhelming support of the people and business community for what you do, shows, and continues to grow.
The articles and photos I look forward to the most are about the South Yuba River, particularly South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport, mainly because reading a Sacramento Bee article about the wild flower bloom and docent led wildflower hikes in the spring, along with a photo of the covered bridge got met to come visit and I got the Nevada City and Nevada County Fever really bad and I did strike gold. It is the wild beauty that captured me along with the kindness of the residents who work tirelessly to make Nevada County such a wonderful place to be. Living in Sacramento County, I appreciate this good old fashion small town spirit and good will towards everyone and what is important to the Nevada County community.

Your Inn Town Campground was one of our first introductions to the kindness of Nevada City. We stayed there while looking for our home. Everyone at the campground was so nice and extremely helpful. We even met kind strangers who were walking by on their way to town. Every day I wake up amazed that the universe smiled on us to let us live here. This community is magical, both the sweet town and the beautiful people who live here. Thank you for helping us find our place here, thank you for the wonderful pictures and information as we begin to learn more about this incredible place we now call home.

My favorite post AND event all year is the Nevada City Film Festival. Growing up here, it used to be something that just happened and I didn’t have much to do with. However, since I’ve gotten older and therefore more immersed in the community, I have such an appreciation for the people that make our sweet little film festival happen.
Sitting in the cold, damp grass at Pioneer Park, I felt akin to those people sitting around me all enjoying these unappreciated small films and filmmakers with more joy and understanding than any marvel movie on the big screen. (AND I got to party with Eric Wareheim) I guess all you need is your small town, good people and a whole lotta love to tether us all to one another.
The Nevada City Film festival is a great way to celebrate our town.
Nevada City is a magical place! From glamping at the Inn Town Campground to staying at the Outside Inn, this small historic town is full of happiness 🙂 I wish I could see it at Christmas time!

I enjoy the Outside Inn blog posts especially related to Nevada City following what’s the haps about town and local area. My favorite photos are the early morning when the streets are quiet and very few cars are downtown. I love how Erin announces new things coming to town in her blog posts. I use it as a go to when trying to figure what to do with our weekends that we have free. With the big involvement in the BIG giveaway from so many area merchants you can tell how much the community appreciates what Erin writes. The cross promotion really is a benefit to everyone. I love all the pictures you post of Nevada City and the Yuba River. We came up again this year in November staying in the Creekside Hideaway and eating at Lefty’s—so glad it is back. I’m new to the blog. But we LOVE Inn Town Campground. We stayed there the opening weekend as we ventured out for our 1st camping trip with our 4 month old son. We didn’t want to get too far from town since we were newbies at the parenting game. In Town Campgroud was the perfect adventure for our new little family. We enjoyed our stay that 4th of July so much, thank you for bringing such great businesses to Nevada County!

What I love about The Outside Inn blog is the community building. Bringing together the great non-profits and local businesses of this county in a way that hasn’t been done before and showcases our offerings to visitors. I look forward to the blog covering some great events including the Street of Dreams hosted by Nevada County Habitat for Humanity and the Starry Starry Nights hosted by Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. I think it is also great to highlight of the outdoor hiking trails, fishing and all that Nevada County has to offer in that department. Looking forward to many more posts!

Nevada County has so much to offer and even though I am considered a local, I was not always so. What brought me to this great little town was not only the community, a wonderful place for my daughter to grow up and the incredible amount of activities to do. One thing I’d love to see on the blog is a local/celebrity/community member on what drew them to the area, and what keeps them here. It would also be cool to do a Ancestry type feature with those who have ties to the mine or other historical landmarks. Keeping the history alive is so important and I feel could become a great feature.
I felt that way when I talked to the gentleman at Cornish Christmas who was wearing his grandfather’s mining hat from Empire Mine. I think that’s a great idea.

My favorite thing on this Blog is Erin’s pictures the composition is incredible. A few years ago when staying in the Climbing room, I saw Erin and told her how much I enjoyed her pics, and asked her why she didn’t have any hanging in the rooms and she was so modest that I think she blushed. Any way staying in the Cabin a few weeks ago I was very pleased to see some of her work hanging, it made me feel even closer to the Inn. We love NC been visiting for about 20 years and are always excited to come back and stay at the Inn and Visit the Merchants .

The whole family is planning a summer get together at your place. Can’t wait. I particularly love the Victorian Picture posted last week and a photo of our house in the fall just before we started pulling apart our large fence to repair and repaint. Repairs going well and paint has to wait till spring.

Just returned from Victorian Christmas and the Outside Inn. What a wonderful and magical place! My daughter and I went ten years in a row but hadn’t been for the past six, so it was a real treat. Had a fabulous meal at Friar Tucks and lovely walk amongst all the beautiful lights. What a joyous celebration!

I recently moved from Grass Valley and I am surprised what a wonderful difference it makes to live in walkable distance to the heart of town. I go places and participate more often now. Outside Inn is where we stayed while looking for a home in Nevada County. Your inn was my first impression and is my favorite. I am loving exploring my new home and all the things to do here. Thank you for your posts and photos that get me out there!

I had no idea you guys even had a blog! I somehow came across the inntown campground Facebook page and began following. Every photo is so magical it make my heart happy. I can’t wait to get out there with my kiddos and experience all the awesomeness the campground has to offer!

I loved the post about fall walks. One of my folavirite things since childhood are the fall colors in our small town. The photos are always amazing!! I love what you have done with the inn. My grandparents used to stay there whenthey visited back when it was The Airways. I have many fond memories in the island area with them!

Oh where to begin?! After living in Los Angeles for a few yeare, i really began to gain an appreciation for this town. Your blog was such a great way to live vicariously and escape the big city when i was missing my sweet little hometown. I love keeping up to date on the happenings around town, the dreamy photos of string-lit streets, the spotlights on local businesses. I am so grateful for this town. Sometimes i think you don’t realize how good you have it until you leave.. now that im back i am so grateful for our community. Love the Outside Inn I’ve recommended staying there to my friends and they recommended to theirs – I always know they will have great service and a memorable time! We meet in Nevada City to eat dinner! It’s a great place and happy to always recommend it.
