Holiday Concerts

The holidays are a great time to get out and support the arts with numerous concerts, plays and performances.  Nutcracker Season returns with two different productions in Nevada County.  Clara and the Nutcracker by Holt Ballet Conservatory at the Miners Foundry is Thursday and Friday, December 7th and 8th and Saturday, December 9th afternoon.  The Nevada County Nutcracker returns to the Don Baggett Theater for the weekend of December 1st, 2nd and 3rd with evening and matinée performances.  In addition the Holiday WinterDance show at The Center for the Arts showcases local dance studios, Friday & Saturday, December 1st and 2nd.  Both Music in the Mountains and InConcert Sierra have holiday musical concerts.  Music in the Mountains will have their Holiday Pops show at the Nevada County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday December 9th and 10th, with a free children’s concert on Saturday morning.  InConcert Sierra will showcase the Sierra Master Chorale and Orchestra at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Saturday and Sunday, December 16th and 17th.  Colla Voce of the Sierra Chamber presents A Celtic Christmas, Saturday, December 9th at Grace Lutheran Church.  Legacy Presents Scrooge at the Nevada Theatre through December 24th.  Or maybe it’s time to think about your New Year’s Eve plans?  Local favorite Earles of Newtown will be performing at the Miners Foundry with Bob Woods Trio.  With so many things to do how are you going to choose?  And there’s plenty of opportunity to hear artists on the street at both Nevada City Victorian Christmas (12/3, 12/10, 12/13, 12/17 and 12/20) and the Cornish Choir at Grass Valley Cornish Christmas (Fridays till December 22nd).  Leave a comment about your favorite holiday concert.

    My favorite music at the holidays are the groups and individuals who perform at our street fairs – Victorian and Cornish Christmases. It is great to be wondering around and hear seasonal music.
