Jim Rogers Memorial Ride

Nevada City CyclingThe fifth annual Jim Rogers Memorial Ride took place today, to honor one of Nevada City’s memories and to educate the community of safe cycling and driving practices.  Jim Rogers was killed in 2010 by a motorist who was texting and driving.  Today’s ride of the Greg Lemond loop welcomed approximately 150 riders, of all skill levels.  Kurt Stephens, Outside Inn night manager and Tour of Nevada City employee, said, “It was great to see people of all types out on their bikes to support Jim.  Don’t text and drive.”  Duane Strawser, owner of the Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop, said, “First and foremost it was great to drum up good memories of Jim, but it’s also a great tool for cyclists and a way to get good results by educating drivers.  Word of mouth and awareness for the motorists is essential for them to know the cyclists exist and how to drive around them safely.  The safety in numbers allowed riders of all abilities to get out, plus with a support crew we were able to help riders who needed a hand, so it’s a great community event.”  Thanks to Nevada City Eats for providing the lunch afterwards and fundraising for the Youth Cyclicts of Nevada County.
