CATS, Community Asian Theatre

CATS, Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra opens their 25th anniversary season with a production of M. Butterfly.  The play is written by Chinese-American playwright David Henry Hwang and directed by Jeffrey Mason and Susan Mason.  The show will be at the historic Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City through May 4th.

Based loosely on the real-life romance between a French diplomat and a Chinese opera diva in the 1960s-1980s, M. Butterfly is a tale of love, deceit, and espionage.  Although references to Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, the opera, the play combines mystery, politics, romance and deception.

The cast includes Paul Micsan, Sean Fenton, Micah Cone, Tina Kelley, Michele Nesbit, Kate Haight, Scott Young, Audrey Delgado, Lisa Moon, Olivia Pritchett and Angela Williams.

Performed in three acts, M. Butterfly is recommended for mature audiences; play contains adult content, language, and nudity. Tickets are available by online and BriarPatch Food Co-op in Grass Valley.  Post a comment here for your chance to win a pair of tickets to either a Thursday or Friday show, winner will be announced on April 19th.  **Edited to say the winner is Judith.
