Malakoff Diggins Loop Trail
Looking for an outdoor adventure? Check out Malakoff State Historic Park, the park has many miles of trails to compliment the rich mining history it offers visitors. The stark, moonscape land formations are the result of hydraulic gold mining from the 1850’s to the 1880’s. After a visit to the town of North Bloomfield, you have choices of walks from 1/4 mile to nearly three miles. This Diggins Trail Loop is 2.7 miles long and it feels exotic and other worldly. The day’s adventure is well worth the drive from downtown Nevada City. The winner from last week’s Schad Studios greeting cards is Cathy.

My birth-mother grew up in San Francisco and she and my aunt spent their summers in Nevada City in the 50s. We went up to Malakoff Diggins a few years ago and she was amazed at how much plant growth there was. She said when she was little the whole place was still completely barren.
I think I’m going to check this place out this weekend to see if it would be a good fit for the hike I’d like to lead for our family reunion in July. If it works out, I’ll send you a thank you note using one of the Schad Studios greeting cards I just won! 🙂
If there are any folks reading this, let me know what your favorite easy local hikes are that are a close walk or drive from Scotts Flat.
Happy Trails!
Hi Cathy— So glad you’re going to use your goodies for a good cause. My favorite easy walk from Scotts Flat would be the Pioneer Trail. But if you wanted to come back into town the Independence Trail is a great option, suitable for all levels.
Pioneer Trail. Noted. Thanks!
