Mardi Gras
The 25th anniversary of Nevada City’s annual Mardi Gras celebration takes over downtown Nevada City, Sunday February 19. The event, hosted by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, features a colorful festive parade & street faire from 11am-4pm with vendors selling food & drinks. The parade starts at 2pm. This year the Mardi Gras Parade has selected the following individuals for their positive impact on our community.
- 2017 Grand Marshal David Parker
- 2017 King & Queen are Lynn Skrukrud & Nathan Stearns
- 2o17 Grand Duke is Simon Olney
- 2017 Grand Duchess is Jesse Locks
In previous years the parade has included Samba Drop, NEO, Nevada City Soapbox Derby, Curious Forge, Claude the fire-breathing dragon, Merry Widow Society, Grass Valley Jazzercise, 49er Rotary, to name a few. I love seeing the festive masks, bright beads and watching people enjoying the beautiful afternoon. While the weather has been rather wet lately, just remember that the event is a rain or shine event, so grab your beads and head to downtown Nevada City on Sunday afternoon.
And for those who are interested in attending the Miners Foundry Masquerade Ball, it’s next Saturday, February 25th with The Deadbeats, doors open at 7pm, concert starts at 8pm, masks and costumes encouraged. Post a comment on this blog post for your chance to win a pair of tickets! Winner will be announced on Wednesday, February 22nd.

I love that we have a Mardi gras celebration here!
Last year they had a kids event center at the miners foundry is this happening again? My child is a little young for the parade!
I’m hoping the rain holds off tomorrow. I know it’s rain or shine but it’s better dry… Thanks for sharing the great pictures!

Nevada City loves a parade! We know how to celebrate! How very cool to see so many neighbors and visitors out and about regardless of Mother Natures plans. All the bright colors, the people, the costumes, the kids, the adults. Big smiles all around as beads flew and umbrellas were the decoration of the day. Well done, AGAIN! Nevada County!
Please pick me. I’ve never been to the ball
One of a kind! Only in Nevada City where magic is made, and history is celebrated and remembered
The music never stops in Nevada City!
