Curly Wolf became a fast favorite! Great place to mentally escape from the office for a few, and their coffee and tea is fantastic.

Did you see the giveaway on their website? I love that I walked in and they knew it was me… always fun to have your reputation proceed you.

    Valerie Cassity says:

Ohhh, my favorite coffee drink changes with the seasons. I love pumpkin spice lattes in the fall, and will go to all of the coffee places around to try them and decide which is the best. In the winter, eggnog lattes, in the spring and summer, it’s mochas either hot or cold depending on the temp outside.

  3. Theresa
    Theresa says:

I love too many places to pick just one. Curly Wolf, Mekka, Caroline’s & Sierra Nevada Coffee Roasters are all on my favorites list! White chocolate mocha’s are my favorite go to drink, but I also love a good chai latte.

  4. Katie
    Katie says:

I love coffee anywhere! I go to bed at night thinking about my cup of coffee in the morning. My favorite drink is a dirty latte

    • erin
      erin says:

What’s in a dirty latte? Now you have me thinking of a dirty martini. I will agree that the coffee ritual is what gets me out of bed every day.

  5. Douglas Keachie
    Douglas Keachie says:

I can only afford to do outside coffee maybe twice a month, but enjoy Carolines and Curly Wolf and Sierra.

    • erin
      erin says:

What I love is that in some cases you can get the best of both worlds– like Treats affagatos? Coffee ice cream and coffee… yumm…. Or you can go to Harmony Ridge Market and buy a special Carolines roast.

  6. Nora J
    Nora J says:

Summer Thyme’s was our first favorite when we moved here six years ago, and it never disappoints. Double mocha or just a regular cup of joe. So many other great choices have popped up since then.

      erin says:

Me too, the bad thing about this post was drooling over all these photos… I mean, I know I drank many of them, but who knows when and definitely not today.

  7. Lisa BB
    Lisa BB says:

Well, it really depends. Broadstreet Bistro is my standby since they have the best patio, and they are the first place I ever ate/drank in Nevada City. My steady drink is a half-caff americano with extra room, but I’ve had good double cappuccinos too, and mochas…Saturday market days I flip flop between wanting a mocha from Broadstreet’s cart, or a warm Fable coffee. Neither were there this week so I remembered that 3 Forks Brewery and Bakery now serves Fable, and they did a good half-caff Americano for me. I do think my favorite Americanos come from SummerThymes though, but I miss the orange tones of the old cafe. Then there is Curly Wolf if I’m feeling extra hip, or during Victorian Christmas it’s a great spot for a family hot cocoa. I could go on…

I gave Amanda a hard time about missing the NC Farmers Market, but she was the Celtic Festival and busy as could be… Love that you miss the orange walls… maybe Emily’s Catering will keep them?

        amanda says:

Emily’s walls are a beautiful blue. It looks amazing in there. Can’t wait for them to open… rumor has it they’ll be serving pour-over Fable!

Glad we’ve got extra eyes out there, keeping tabs on the comings and goings of coffee love and the color of walls. Keep up the fine work Ms. Fable.

Mmmmm….coffee!! My favorite iced coffee is from Curly Wolf, my favorite latte is from Sierra Mountain. Just had a great iced latte the other morning from Three Forks. I need to try them ALL now!!

    • erin
      erin says:

I’m feeling the same way, all these great ideas and suggestions… and now what we need is the mobile coffee shop to come by and deliver drinks, who’s up for that idea?

  9. Julie G.
    Julie G. says:

Here in the middle of the Anza Borrego Desert there is not a decent cup of coffee for at least an hour and a half drive in any direction! Carefully hoarding my last few precious beans from Sierra Mountain Coffee roasters until I can come stock up again! Java John’s is always such a friendly place to sit and sip a cappuccino in the window while watching the people go by. ‘sigh’ 😉

    • erin
      erin says:

Miss you Julie!!! Glad we can make you think of home while drinking coffee and I’m confident a care package could be arranged if need be.

    MMM Coffee coffee coffee….

I love all of our coffee shops for different drinks and reasons.

Curly wolf has wonderful wonderful coffee and cold brews.

Broad Street is wonderful for sitting outside, staff is great and provides a great working environment

Mekka is a great afternoon treat, a wonderful roast and hand crafted chocolates.

Three Forks has the most amazing muffins ever, if you need a treat with your coffee this is the place to go.

Caroline’s hands down has the best espresso roast I’ve tasted, the sound of fresh roasted beans clicking through their rafters is beyond inspiring.

  11. Ingrid Knox
    Ingrid Knox says:

We’ve rediscovered Java John’s after many years. Nice people and good coffee. Caroline’s is really good as well. Even though it’s fall, I’m still into an iced caramel latte – decaf please. 🙂

Oh my fabulous friend Debbie!!! I’ll have coffee with you any day, now we have to work on those 7000 miles, an international date line and a few other obstacles… but perhaps you can have a cup with Dan next month when he comes to visit.

  17. Erin Dixon
    Erin Dixon says:

So many fun places to grab coffee in town. One of my favorite places is Summer Thyme’s. I’m a pretty boring gal in the coffee department and usually just go for a plain old latte (hot or cold) but when it gets close to Christmas I am a fan of the occasional Eggnog Latte! Yum!

  18. Diane R.
    Diane R. says:

Just thinking about the gaggle of toddlers we’ll have at the house in the morning for playgroup makes me not really care, as long as it has caffeine ;). But I love a good Americano and can always go for a chai. Or a pumpkin latte…

    • erin
      erin says:

Gaggle of toddlers, wow, you go my friend. Chai sound delicious…. and now that I think of it, I happen to know a fabulous friend who sometimes makes walking coffee deliveries… humm…

    • erin
      erin says:

I also have to pre-eat for the affagato, b/c on an empty stomach it leaves me bouncing off the walls… but yum, coffee and coffee ice cream…

  21. Lillian

My favorite thing is to hang with friends while enjoying my brew :). We are lucky to have so many great options! I have a longtime fondness for Mecca. Curly Wolf sure serves impressive coffee! They’re all amazing! I still miss Sierra Coffee Roasters where Sopa Thai is now. Epic card games and brew there!

    • erin
      erin says:

Yeah for coffee with friends… I should’ve included your lovely photo of the latte from Cafe Mekka… maybe for next year’s National Coffee day post?

  23. Bonnie Hertlein-Swetman
    Bonnie Hertlein-Swetman says:

When I drink coffee I mostly like it black as night with rich flavor. I have found (so far) that Caroline’s has the best tasting Americano. When I am in the mood for something special its a Carlos Castonada at the Fix or the best thick shaving creme type foam cappuccino at Summertime….its like a perfectly toasted marshmallow!

    • erin
      erin says:

Oh, I’ve never had the Carlos Castonado at the Fix (but the Mexican hot cocoa is amazing). Toasted marshmellow, yumm….

  24. Jeanne
    Jeanne says:

Though I was reluctant to join the fans of Curly Wolf, being loyal to other cafes, a respite here is a great way to get a San Francisco fix (historic Nevada City fusion) without actually traveling. So I’ve added it to my favorite spots. What an amazing small town we have.

  25. Brett

I really like Sierra Mountain Coffee Roasters. The coffee is great and the pastries are phenomenal! I didn’t know a scone could be so delicious!

    • erin
      erin says:

See, isn’t it great that I reminded you of these fun holidays? And isn’t it great that several of our local coffee shops thought it’d be fun to play along with my fun promotion? I’ll drink coffee to that!

  27. Lydia
    Lydia says:

If it’s a late night meetups with friend, Curly Wolf is the perfect place. But don’t forget the drive thru coffee at Grass Valley Florist!

This time of year it’s all about the pumpkin spice latte! And I might be craving a scoop of chocolate in that ever since I tried that suggestion…

    • erin
      erin says:

Oh thanks for the plug for Grass Valley Florist (perhaps we should meet for coffee, take some photos and then I’ll do a blog post on them?).
