Nevada City Film Festival

Nevada City Film Festival

Nevada City, CA, is home to the “Sundance of the Sierra” also known to locals as the Nevada City Film Festival! From August 23rd-30th, the Nevada City Film Festival makes art into a party, bringing emerging and top independent filmmakers showcasing award-winning short and feature-length films from around the world to this beautiful historic town in the Sierra Foothills.  The week-long celebration of art, music, and independent filmmaking, includes film screeningsworkshops, after parties, and more!

Spanning the course of seven days, NCFF will screen nearly 100-award winning short and feature length films, and welcome 45 filmmakers to participate in Q&A’s, workshops and panel discussions.

NCFF kicks off on Friday, August 23rd with a screening at the historic Nevada Theatre, with the 50th Anniversary screening of Easy Rider written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern, and directed by Hopper.

This year’s feature films check all the boxes of what an independent film festival should encompass; from promising debuts by emerging directors to seasoned industry favorites taking creative risks to tell new and exciting stories, and everything in between.

Other highlights of this year’s festival include the nearly 100 award-winning shorts and feature-length films, with over 35 of the film’s filmmakers traveling from around the world to attend and participate in Question & Answer’s following the films.  Features include a special screening of Ai WeiWei: Yours Truly directed by Cheryl Haines,  Desolation Center, The Seer and the Unseen and Carmine Street Guitars.  NCFF features a record 11 short film programs made up of 80 films this year including documentary, narrative, animation, midnight, children, adventure, and more!  Short films have always been at the heart of NCFF programming, and one of the favorite and unique things about this festival.

The festival wraps Friday, August 30th with an outdoor “Best of the Fest” screening in Pioneer Park at 6pm. Attendees can enjoy delicious eats from local and regional food trucks, award-winning beer from Ol’ Republic and the winners of this year’s festival including the highly coveted Audience Choice Award.

Nevada city is one of my favorite places I grew up in Cool (about 30 mins from Nevada City) and I still love to visit it now living in Sacramento! Their diverse art scene and of course the emerald Yuba keeps me coming back and makes this town feel like home.

Wow! What a great prize. I’ve never been to the NC film festival (I know, I know) so this would be a great opportunity to make it happen!

There’s no guilt allowed, truly if we felt like we “had” to go to all the things that happened in this town you’d have to win the lottery and quit your job. But good luck with this giveaway.

As new residents of NC what a wonderful way to be introduced to the film festival of 2019. Films, meeting new folks, food, and camping out. What a great giveaway from Outside Inn.

Agreed… sometimes just chatting with other folks who are there supporting independent films is just as much! But I do marvel at the opportunity to do a Q&A.

I’ve been wanting to do a staycation at In Town Campground and I also missed the festival last year because we had just moved and were trying to get settled. So this would be the ultimate package to win! Here’s to trying! Thank you, Erin, for all the ways you give and serve this amazing community.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have the kids camp and enjoy the pool and the outdoor movies and then you go out and have a date night? I know your mom was open to this idea– maybe she’d rough it and tent camp? (Or go home, which is always an option).

It is a win-win weekend prize for someone. But if you decided to go camping you could still walk to the screenings in Nevada City (which is fun).

I’ve always wanted to check out the whole weekend rather than just do the best of the fest. Nice and fun package you’ve put together. Thanks!!

It actually goes for a whole week, so if for any reason you can’t make the weekend, don’t fret, there’s still more fun during the week. But yes, the best of fest outside fun is always a great option.

I can’t tell if you meant Monday August 12, or Sunday August 11, but I’m going to comment anyway because I love both the InnTown Campground AND the film fest — thanks for the inspiration!
