Nevada City Fall Walks
Fall is one of my favorite seasons in Nevada City, it seems everywhere you turn you can find a pop of color. If you’ve never experienced the Gold Country fall color it’s a great time to get outside. If you are looking for some suggestions on where to go the Nevada City and Grass Valley Chambers have created a great fall colors self guided walking tour map, click here to download it. If you’re a tree enthusiast, don’t forget the Nevada City Tree Tour. If you’re looking to go for a fall walk with others, check out these upcoming free options this month: join Jesse Locks on a Folk Trails Hiking Club walk, Kial James and I on a Nevada City Scenics Fall Photo Walk or the Day of the Dead Cemetery Tour Walk.
Thursday, October 10th, 4-6 pm, meet at the Outside Inn
Folk Trails Hiking Club invites history and nature lovers of all-ages to join them on a walk/hike through historic Nevada City and its outlying neighborhoods. We’ll learn about the local history and practice our plant and tree identification skills. The hike begins at the Outside Inn. Please bring water, snacks if needed, proper footwear, dress in layers and of course, your camera. The walk/hike will last approximately 2 hours.

For those of have joined us on photo walks, I’m happy to report that Kial James of Nevada City Scenics and I are teaming up for a free fall colors photo walk. The fall colors of Nevada City are beyond spectacular at this time of year and it’s a great opportunity to get out and take some photos. All ages and experience levels welcome, including those who only have cell phones for taking pictures. Experience the beauty of Nevada City with fellow like-minded photographers as we take a stroll through some of the historic neighborhoods and take in the incredible sights and sounds of the beautiful little town of Nevada City, California.
Friday, November 1, 2019, 3:30-6 pm, meet at the Outside Inn, Nevada City
The stunning fall colors will make for a most beautiful backdrop on this walk through Nevada City’s historic cemeteries. In honor of Day of the Dead Folk Trails Hiking Club will visit Pioneer Cemetery off of West Broad Street, Pine Grove Cemetery on Red Dog Road and if we are super ambitious we’ll try for the Nevada County Cemeteries near Willow Valley. Each of these cemeteries offer a glimpse into our past; we’ll learn more about some of the individuals who are buried here and pay our respects to those who have come before us.
The walk will is 4+ miles, mostly easy with a few hills. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Bring plenty of water.
I also love sharing photos via Instagram of more fall colors. If you take a Nevada City picture think about adding #VisitNevadaCity to share your photos on via VisitNevadaCity on Instagram. Can’t wait to see everyone’s favorite fall trees.
