Nevada City Film Festival
Every summer, the Nevada City Film Festival makes art into a party, bringing award-winning shorts and feature films to the historic venues of Nevada City, CA. A four-day celebration of art, music, and independent filmmaking, this year’s fest includes a live performance by writer and comedian Marc Maron (host of the critically acclaimed podcast “WTF with Marc Maron”), feature-length films such as “Listen Up Philip” starring Elisabeth Moss and Jason Schwartzman and Patrick Brice’s “Creep,” and an excellent sampling of award-winning shorts from around the world. Mark your calendars for September 4th-7th.
The festival will also feature world-renowned performance artist Miwa Matreyek during First Friday Art Walk, a free screening of the documentary “The Bird Who Flew Alone” about Gene Clark of the Byrds, workshops on how to create a successful comedy series and shooting and editing with GoPro, a special presentation of the 1968 Steve McQueen film “Bullitt”, children’s shorts, filmmaker Q&As, after parties, and more. Check out the Nevada City Film Festival facebook page to keep up to date, Golden Shoulders was just added to the opening night after party.
The Outside Inn’s blog is excited to offer up one free festival pass, post a comment on this blog post and I’ll announce the winner on Friday, August 29th. And if you’re interested in the live comedy show, the special event tickets are available here, act fast as it’s going to sell out. Many thanks to Kat Alves and Simon Weller for some additional photos from last year’s event, what’s your favorite part about the annual event?

I have always wanted to attend, but there almost always seems to be something that comes up. I can’t wait to experience it this year. Thanks for the pics and the reminder about the festival.
I’ve never been to this fest and hoping to make it my first time this year! What a big town microcosm we have here!
Free festival pass? Sign me up! I’d really be the hostess with the mostess if I could score a free pass for one of my many out of town guests who will be coming up for the weekend! Free passes or not, we’ll see you at the festival!
I’m an aspiring screenwriter and movie freak and would love, love, love to attend this wonderful event! Holding my breath…
Love all the art events we have in this tiny town. It’s really remarkable and part of the reason we chose to move here. We have always gone to the children’s films with the kids, and would love to go see some of the other shows for a date night. Yes, please!
Well….. I’m a 25 years long local, I love the Fest, I used to go when it was just in Magic Theatre, I volunteer for it almost every year, and most importantly, I hiked 265 km through Spain this summer on the El Camino de Santiago and on the epic day we arrived to the sacred place (after 12 days on the trail), I was representing NCFF by wearing my black Nevada City Film Festival t-shirt with pride. I would show you, but this doesn’t allow, but look on FB post challenge to see how committed I am. Hope that makes you feel all warm inside. No matter, I’m coming….but thought I’d share.
I am so looking forward to the Film Festival. This year will be the first time I am available to attend in many years. A free ticket would be the icing on the cake. BTW my out of town guests always stay at the Outside Inn when they are in town.
So glad they had a good stay with us… the film festival should be fun, a great line up of events. Thanks for the comment.
My brother had a film in the festival a few years back back I haven’t been able to make it since. I would LOVE to have tickets! My mom is coming into town during that time and that would be an amazing surprise for her! I love this town! We have the best stuff, the coolest events and the sweetest people :).
This will be my first NC Film festival and I’m super excited! I had a blast at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival and the Storytelling Festival. Can’t wait for this one!
So glad to hear you’re taking advantage of the many amazing events in our community.
Can I submit another response? I need a second pass to match the one I already bought so I’m going to submit another response. Submit.
This is always a great event in town. Awesome to see such talent make Nevada City a stop.
We’ve got the babysitter confirmed, can’t wait to go!
The after parties sound fun too!
NBC Bay Area is really talking this up!
I’ve lived here for years and this is the first year I’m going.
I’ll be coming up from Sacramento. See you soon!
This will be my first film festival and it looks like it’s going to be a good one!
What a fun getaway weekend from Truckee this will be!
This was the only thing that could distract my hubby from playing golf… well, one of the only things.
Miwa and Marc on the same night….and that’s only Friday. Nice lineup of films!
They’ve really done a great job with the marketing of this event. Love your blog!
The films were excellent last year, the comedy not so much so.
I’ve always had to work but have the weekend off this year! Pick me pick me 🙂
Have you done the drawing yet?? I would LOVE a free pass to this epic event!
