Nevada City Photo Walk

Nevada City

Earlier this month Kial James, of Nevada City Scenics, and I kicked off our 2020 Nevada City photo walk series.  We started this free meet up collaboration over 5 years ago as a way to connect with other photographers using Instagram through Instameets.  Over the years we’ve done photo walks at the South Yuba River, Malakoff Diggins, Riverhill Farm, downtown Nevada City, Inn Town Campground, a local vineyard, Crystal Hermitage Gardens and Hirschman Pond to name a few.  The Union recently wrote an article about our series and Kial explained that we aim to make the “photowalks enthralling but also inclusive and accessible to anyone, whether they take photos with a Nikon or an iPhone, are avid hikers or just want to saunter along for some sight-seeing.”  The photo walks are free and welcome to anyone to join, regardless of photography ability.  It’s a great opportunity to connect with others who also enjoy the art of photography, whether it’s portraits, landscapes or little details.  What I love about the slow paced walks is that they give you permission to stop and really appreciate the details around you.

Saturday, April 18th, 6:30-8pm: Crystal Hermitage, tour the 17,000 tulips for an all access photo walk with Kial James, sign up required, limited space available.

Sunday, May 17th, 3pm: Inn Town Campground, 9 Kidder Ct.  Please park outside the campground on New Mohawk and walk into the campground and meet at the Commons.

Saturday, June 6th, 9am: Black Swan Preserve, Smartsville. Photo walk around the BYLT open space.

Saturday, October 10th, 9am: Fall colors in downtown Nevada City, meet at the public parking area at the bottom of Nevada Street across the street from the Deer Creek Inn.

Saturday, December 5th, 4pm: Holiday light photo walk, meet at the Outside Inn, please park in downtown Nevada City and walk to the motel to start the walk.

So feel free to mark your calendar for the upcoming walks, we’ll always post a Facebook event prior to the upcoming walk, so feel free to follow Outside Inn or Nevada City Scenics.  If you opt to go on a self guided micro adventure and want to share your photos of Nevada County, use the hashtag #VisitNevadaCity for a chance to be featured on the Visit Nevada City Instagram feed.  If you want to see some of the other images from this hike, check out the discussion on the Facebook event.
