Nevada City Soapbox Derby
The Nevada City Soapbox Derby returned to Nevada City today. Thirty three different cars raced down the half mile course on Nimrod Street, some gaining as much as 40 mph, while others were competing for the art car category and not necessarily as concerned about speed. The local event is a fundraiser for Pioneer Park and brings out families, locals and visitors to take part in the festivities. In addition to the racing there was live music by Yogoman Burning Band, Pinewood derby race track by the Nevada City Cub Scouts, Lazy Dog ice cream and a number of local food vendors. Congrats to Gravity Wave Racing for winning the fastest car prize and Mr. Potato Head for winning the crowd favorite award. Kudos to Rich Bodine for organizing another fabulous Nevada City event and to all the sponsors, participants, spectators and volunteers for another great day in our little town. And the winner from last week’s Sierra Storytelling Festival giveaway is Holly.

Such a fun day…loved Yogoman!
Live music was great, made the whole area feel like a big party. Kudos to your family for working the extra hour(s) to help bring this event to life.
Looks like a lot of fun!!!
Just for accuracy’s sake, there were only 33 teams racing this year. We had one scratch shortly before race time and a few others just couldn’t meet the stringent safety requirements. Several others bowed out a few weeks ago so that they could perfect things for next year. 😉
Thank you Erin for helping promote this race and the community as a whole!
Thanks Jeff, I’ll fix that. Thanks for your countless hours you put in to help with this event!
So sorry we missed the derby! Awesome photos….looks like a great time was had by all!
