Nevada City Soapbox Derby
The Nevada City Soapbox Derby tore down Nimrod Street in Nevada City today. The 5th annual event raises money for Pioneer Park. Organizer Rich Bodine explains that while the event is a free “fun event for the entire community,” their primary goal is to have fun! The gravity powered cars can either race for speed or art category. This year the Outside Inn/Inn Town Campground built a Lego car and won the “Biggest Project award,” thanks for plug for our future campground. The fastest car award this year went to the Rusty Rocket from San Jose. Best in Show award went to the Fly High Jake team. Congrats to all 30 cars, the slinky dog car, built by Gary Apple, certainly won the hearts of many of the spectators. Free swimming in Pioneer Pool and ice cream from Lazy Dog were some of the other favorites. For photos from previous years (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) check out the Outside Inn blog posts. Time to start brainstorming your entry for next year.
And the winner of the Nevada City Farmers Market giveaway is Marjorie.
Looks like it was lots of fun. Congrats on the award but what does the “Biggest Project” mean – the biggest soapbox car or it was just a lot of work??? 🙂
