Open Studios & Art Tour of Western Nevada County
The Center for the Arts Fall Colors Open Studios Tour is a great way to get to know local artists in Nevada City and Grass Valley. Seventy Two artists open up their creative spaces and invite you to stop by and see where they work, their art and demonstrations. You can check out the online guide or pick up your copy of the book at The Center for the Arts. Open Studios is the first two weekends (Saturday & Sunday) of October 10am-5pm. Obviously I couldn’t make it too all of the studios today, but I did enjoy my visits to LeeAnn Brook, Ruth Chase, ASiF Studios (with photos of Rebecca Bleau, Kathryn Wronski, Jerianne Van Dijk, Jill Mahanna and more), Betsy Lombard, Mowen Sculpture and Kathy Frey. With so many creative people making and enjoying art in our community, its reason to celebrate. So if you haven’t popped in to visit an artist (or 10), mark your calendars and get out and explore, just follow the signs, you never know where you’ll end up! If you did visit a studio, or plan to visit one, feel free to post a comment and share.

It’s not a competition but we got to 9 spots with 21 listed artists. As If Gallery had lots more artists that are mentioned in the Tour booklet. We really love Odette Brush’s watercolors. Something new for us was Green Light Restoration. I’ve never been inside but they have fun objects made from repurposed items – some of the more creative are the clarinet lamps and a record player clock. Kathy Frey’s work is also really fantastic. Had a fabulous day interacting with lots of talented and interesting artists!
Ha ha, it’s not a competition, you’re right, but glad to hear you beat me! Green Light is fun, glad you got a chance ot pop in and see some of their work.
It’s so funny to be an insider, participating in the Open Studios Tour as an artist for the first time this year. Thanks for sharing glimpses of some spots since I won’t be leaving my post since I’m open both weekends.
Such a fun day, and I got to do some on the spot custom tweaks… a bonus when coming directly to an artist’s space.
Enjoy exploring, everyone!
Thanks Kathy for opening up your home, you did a fabulous job of showcasing your work.
Ingrid and others, we were so excited to be on the tour this year! It was truly a great day meeting new people and sharing what we do. Because much of the work is inspired by things we find, it changes often. Come back and see us again. 🙂
Yeah for Green Light!
Thanks so much for stopping by my studio today Erin…always such a pleasure to see what you are up to next! Your coverage of special, as well as lesser known, events in our area is so unique, and your talents as a great photographer are growing by leaps and bounds. Love your energy ( and it takes a lot), and I am impressed by your commitment to what you do. Kudos to a job well done.
LeeAnn, thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate your continued support. So great to see your work on display, love how you have room to display outside too.
ERIN!
Look at you GO! Now for me to sneak out and get to a few studios myself.
And what an awesome post too. Seriously, you are an angel and lifeline for our community.
It’s posts like these that get me out and have me supporting our local business.
Wishing all the artist on the tour a very successful and prosperous event.
Thanks Ruth, so glad we could make it up to your space. Hope the rest of day was full of art-loving folks.
