President’s Day Weekend Activities

Nevada City Mardi Gras, photo by Erin Thiem

With Valentine’s Day this week there’s a lot happening in our small town.  Check out last week’s Valentine’s Day post for a round up of ideas (and the names of the winners).  But President’s Weekend also offers a number of great activities and events.  The Mardi Gras festivities kick off on Sunday with a street faire at 11am and the parade at 2pm.

If you’re looking for some live music ALO is performing Friday night at The Center for the Arts, The Crazy Horse Saloon has a number of concerts this weekend, live bands at Coopers, World Beatnix at The Golden Era on Sunday afternoon from 4-7pm.  Or if you’re interested in classical music check out the Sunday afternoon InConcert Sierra concert with harpist Bridget Kibbey.

The Sacred Earth and Healing Arts of Tibet Tour with the Buddhist Monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery are returning to St. Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley, the opening ceremony of the Sand Mandala will be on Friday, February 16th at 7pm and a family art day on Saturday starting at 10am.

Or take advantage of the warm temperatures and go for a hike or the Inn Town Campground’s winter tent camping special.  Or maybe you’d prefer to visit Empire Mine State Park or Malakoff Diggins and learn about local history.  Whatever your weekend includes, there’s a lot going on in Nevada City.

The VisitNevadaCity Instagram feed is a fun way to share your local adventures online with #visitnevadacity to help showcase all the things to do, eat, see and enjoy in Nevada City.
