President's Day Weekend

With Valentine’s Day this week there’s a lot happening in our small town. Check out last week’s Valentine’s Day post for a round up of ideas (and the names of the winners). But President’s Weekend also offers a number of great activities and events. The Mardi Gras parade kick off on Sunday with a street faire at 11am and the parade at 2pm.

The annual Masquerade Ball at the historic Miners Foundry Cultural Center in downtown Nevada City is happening Saturday evening with music by The Revelers. Enjoy live music with dancing, costumes, masks, food and drinks. There are also a number of fun Valentine’s Day events at the Nevada Theatre, check out the Cabaret options (Bitter Songs for Bitter People and Red Hot Valentine’s Day).

If you’re looking for some live music Boca do Rio performing at Crazy Horse Saloon, plus live bands at The Brick and music at Friar Tucks. Or if you’re interested in classical music check out the Sunday afternoon InConcert Sierra concert with Paul & Helen Huang.

Or take advantage of the dry weather and go for a hike or bring your RV and stay at the Inn Town Campground. Or maybe you’d prefer to visit Empire Mine State Park or Malakoff Diggins and learn about local history. Don’t forget about our local history hike with Folk Trails Hiking Club this Thursday, meet at the Outside Inn at 3pm.

The Center for the Arts is hosting another one of their free Family Fun Days, stop by the Grass Valley Elks Lodge between 10am-2pm. Plus, our kick off for the Nevada City Photo Walks is Sunday, February 16th, meet at the Outside Inn at 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon.
