“Nevada County is an outdoor playground,” says South Yuba Club trainer Joan Daugherty, “It’s a great place to rock climb.” Joan’s top three favorite places to climb are “Donner Summit, Bowman Lake and Auburn Quarry.” Mike Carville, owner of SYC and an avid climber, recommends, “Emeralds/Bowman Valley, Indian Springs, Rainbow, Donner Summit and Big Chief,” all within in 30-60 minutes from Nevada City. If you’re looking to get into the spirit of climbing check out the Reel Rock Tour, put on by NorCal CRAGS, a non profit organization dedicated to helping climbers in the Northern California area. The Nevada City stop for the tour will be Friday, November 16th at the Stonehouse, doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. The Outside Inn’s blog has 2 tickets to giveaway for the event, post a comment on this blog post on why you want to go and I’ll draw the winner on Wednesday, November 14th.

Hi Erin and Dan – not sure if you and Dan climb but wanted to let you know that we have a club climbing trip to Bowman tomorrow (Saturday, June 8th). Great for all experience levels including first time climbers. We are meeting at 10am at the Clubhouse.
Hi Mike – I saw your post about a trip to Bowman and wanted to ask, if there are group/learning trips in the spring (2014), where information would be available. My son (13) wants to learn and I need a belay!

Great pictures on the blog. Nevada county looks amazing, and has some really great views. What mor could you ask for when climbing. Great weather, great views, great climbs. Thanks for sharing.
Love to host the four back in Stonehouse again. It was so fun last time, pack the house with our PR in motion, with climbing the north face of our Stonehouse in the news paper. Let’s do it again.
