Did you make it to the Nevada City Soapbox Derby yesterday?  Many, many, many thanks to all the hard work of the organizers, volunteers, teams and the cheering crowds.  This event is just one of the many examples of why I love Nevada City.  There’s something about small town pride, especially with an event where the motto is “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing!” G.B.Shaw.  The Outside Inn was very excited that in our first year of participating we won the Crowd Favorite for our Minion rowboat, kudos to Dan and Randy for making it happen.  Look for us in the upcoming Fourth of July parade.  Top finishers for this year were Thad Davis from Wichita, Kansas, with a close second of his son Thad, both speed cars hitting top speeds of 45 miles per hour.  Third place went to the Rusty Rockets from San Jose.  Rich Bodine, Chief Instigator of the event, wanted to “thank everyone for helping support Pioneer Park and our community.”  If you’re already brain storming how to be a part of this fun-filled event, you can join the Soapbox Derby circuit and participate in the Labor Day Soapbox Derby event in San Jose, more details here.  What was your favorite part of the event, post a comment here and share?  Free swimming in the Pioneer Park pool?  A glass of wine from the Nevada City Chamber booth?  Face painting by Cheek Thrills Face?  Match box car racing by the Cub Scouts?  Bouncy castle?  Watching the speed cars?  Waving to Mrs. Potato head?  Listening to the Nevada County Concert band?  I couldn’t fit all the photos into this post, so for more photos click here and if you want to see 2011, 2012 and 2013 Nevada City Soapbox Derby, click here, here and here.  Thanks again to everyone who came out and supported the event, can’t wait for next year.

Such great fun!!! I just love this town. Walking around the event yesterday I noticed something…..everyone was smiling from ear to ear. I think there’s something about this event that brings out the kid in everyone.

Thanks Jeff, your car was pretty awesome and hope you get some creative folks out at The Curious Forge to work on their cars.

Congratulations to all the winners, but especially to our Volunteers and our community for bringing their positive, fun-loving attitudes to Pioneer Park for the day! It was great to see all the kids in the bounce houses and the swimming pool, or racing hot wheels down the Pack 23 track! As usual, the art cars won the crowd…the speed cars won the race! Thanks to all! See you next year!
