Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) kicks off their 2018 season with a debut of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific.”  The non-profit organization’s goal is to promote diversity through the arts through multicultural theater, events and workshops.  The musical, which represents the 23rd season of theater for CATS opens tonight, Thursday, April 12th and runs through May 5th at the historic Nevada Theatre.  CATS Executive Director Jeannie Wood says, “This show has something for everyone!  It is extremely entertaining with lots funny and serious moments and great music, singing, and dancing.”

The play originally debuted on Broadway in 1949, based on James A. Michener’s award winning book Tales of the South Pacific.  Director and Musical Directors Jeffrey Mason and Susan Mason bring to life the classic featuring a local cast: Sadhira Williams, Jessua Aviles, Jick Icasiano, Angela Williams, Terry Brown, Miles Mason, Aidan Nunn, Tim Brown, Kris Meadows, Tom Ogden, Anthony Pritchett, Bernadette Garcia, Amora Williams, Micah Cone, Kimberly Shepard, Olivia Pritchett, Tina Marie Kelley, Austin Nunn, Frank Swaringen, Bill Gentes, Jick Icasiano, Michele Nesbit, Kris Meadows, Tim Brown and Outside Inn employee Grace Stubbs.

Audiences have been treated to a series of wonderful plays in recent years, including  “Chinglish”, “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet”, “The Teahouse of the August Moon,” “The King and I” and “Snow Falling on Cedars.”  You can buy your tickets online or stop by BriarPatch in person.
