Spirithouse Import Gallery and Gamelan Sekar Jaya

Spirithouse Import Gallery, a peak into the exotic lands of Southeast Asia.  They offer a wide variety of crafts, jewelry, clothing and home decor.  You may even forget that you’re in the heart of historic Nevada City as your browse through the items from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Bali.  And if you’re looking to enjoy some culture from that part of the world check out the latest event at the North Columbia Schoolhouse.  Gamelan Sekar Jaya, a sixty-five member company of musicians and dancers are coming on June 9th to perform traditional Balienese music in the outdoor amphitheater.   “The performance, beginning with the gamelan angklung and gendér wayang, will unfold under dappled pinks and oranges of the sunset and framed by the towering pines that surround the amphitheater,” said Saraswati Susilo. “Following intermission, the gamelan semerandana and gamelan jegog will move to the open field adjacent the historic Schoolhouse, true to the open-air settings used in traditional Balinese contexts, where groups often play within or in front of temple courtyards.”  Grounds open at 6pm, so bring your blanket and your picnic for a fun night out.  You can buy tickets online or at Briar Patch, Mother Truckers or post a comment here for a chance to win 2 free tickets.  Winner will be drawn on Wednesday, June 6th.
