STEAM Expo
The second annual Nevada County STEAM Expo took place today at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The free family friendly event combined science, technology, engineering, art and math. Kids of all ages had the opportunity to do hands on art projects, play with robots, watch videos and chat with local businesses in the STEAM fields. “My favorite part was watching parents and students so engaged all day. It was just incredible to see the interaction at all age levels. There were so many things going on and just watching the families excited and engaged was amazing,” said Shar Johns, Associate Superintendent, Educational Services. Many thanks to the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools for brining together so many vibrant examples of technology. The science fair exhibits on display gave a lot of great examples of creativity in the local students. Over 200 Nevada county students participated from our districts, charters and private schools. There were 22 school and community group exhibitors, the tag line on the brochure reading, “Showcasing Nevada County students and the community that supports them!” Congrats to those students who participated in the Science categories: Invention, Robotics and Computers, Environmental/Agricultural Innovation, Reverse Engineering, Rube Goldberg, Science Fiction, Scientific Inquiry and math competition. Many thanks to the Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra, Girls Who Code, SYRCL, Nevada County Arts, ACME Robotics, Sierra Streams Institute, NU STEM Club, NU Green Academy, Nevada County Astronomers, Bicycle Recycle, Nevada County Library, plus exhibits by local businesses AJA Video Systems, Telestream and the Nevada County Economic Resource Council. “We estimate well over 1000 attendees (probably closer to 1500). Amazing for only our 2nd year!” explained Shar Johns. So many great opportunities to inspires the next generation. You can check out more photos, follow NevCoExpo on Twitter. Did you go?
