Summer Events
With Memorial Day right around the corner, it’s time to revisit a few of our favorite local summer events. While the COVID modifications are still changing, here are a couple of events you can put on your calendar and have something to look forward to in Nevada City & Grass Valley.
Nevada City First Friday Art Walk returns to downtown. The kick off for the 2021 season starts Friday, June 4th. Spent the evening celebrating art in various small businesses. Osborn Woods Galley will re-open for the first time since COVID with works by Griffin Queen, Deborah Bridges, Al Martinez, Juliette morris Williams, Giulia Sbernini, Andrew Sellery and Sheila Cameron. The 2021 First Friday Art Walk will continue through September.
The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is back open on Saturdays, you can hop a ride on the Railbus. The museum is by donation only, but we recommend giving them a call and pre-booking your ride on the train, as they are currently running on limited capacity. Make sure to wave to the campers at the Inn Town Campground on your adventure.
Grass Valley’s Thursday Night Markets will return this summer, starting Thursday, June 24th from 6-9pm on Mill Street. The outdoor event will continue Thursdays Nights through July 29th. Stay tuned to the Grass Valley Downtown Association for more details on the event.
The Nevada County Fair will return to Grass Valley in August. The Nevada County Fairgrounds will host the 5 day event from August 11th-15th. In addition to the rides, music and events are the barns full of livestock, games and buildings full of exhibits. And who can forget Treat Street, with a great selection of foods, many supporting our local community service organizations.
Other ones to put on your calendar: Movies Under the Pines in Pioneer Park (June 11th, July 9th, August 3), California Worldfest (July 17th), Nevada City Craft Fair at Miners Foundry (July 18th), Deer Creek Music Festival in Pioneer Park (July 24th), Jerry Bash in Pioneer Park (August 7th) and Nevada City Film Festival (August 27-September 3). We’re all excited about getting out and celebrating our small town community. We’ll do our best to shout out when we hear of additional events and activities.
