The Real at Off Center Stage
This Friday, April 4th, four local artists are coming together for a party about Art, Nutrition and Life and inviting you to be a part of the event. The event is called “The Real” is part of the Off Center Stage Discovery Series showcasing the work of Sheila Cameron, Kathy Frey, Victoria LaFont and Heather Donahue. Tagged as ‘the reality and hilarity of living a healthy, creative life in modern times.’ “I think we are all feeling the paradox of living well in this whacko age. How do we do that? How can we life healthfully, fully and still be balanced human beings? How can we create art, deep, loving relationships, take care of ourselves, etc. and have such differing views and need? This event will set us up for that conversation while having fun….that’s the important part that any philosophically based event is missing. We’re going to keep the heady part in check, and have fun and listen, ” said Victoria. “I wanted to explore a new approach to how the traditional art show worked, so invited friends that inspire me to join the party,” said Sheila. “Moving here was an experiment to see if I could have the lifestyle I wanted while being a successful artist,” said jewelry maker Kathy Frey. For this art show she has created a series of sculptures and said the motivation for The Real was catalyst to branch out in her creative outlets while being supported by her community. A $6 suggested donation or a real food item to share will get you a raffle ticket at the door for original artwork, healthy and beauty products. There is also an ebay art auction with starting bids of only .49 with new work going up until the end of the show April 15. The event in intended to be a conversation with artists and the people who attend the show, so stop by the Off Center Stage on Friday evening between 5-9pm and join the fun. And check below for my latest giveaway!

The best advice I know about art, nutrition, and life is this:
Spend time outside. Nature is art. Take from it what you need but give back more than you take. It will keep you healthy and happy.
Sounds like a really interesting night! Wish I were closer to be a part of it. What is the modern life? That’s a tough one! I’m continually trying to define it.
You’ll live here one day and then you’ll run into me in all sorts of places 🙂 Defintions are over rated.
Erin,
Thank you for keeping us up to date on all the fabulous happenings in your beautiful community. I have learned so much about Nevada County since I’ve discovered your FB page and blog 🙂
Still in the ever learning, evolving and discovery of how to balance art, nutrition and life as I grow, I would say keep all of your senses open, be flexible and go with the flow and listen to your body.
Be creative and try new things and experiences. Always feed and replenish your mind, body and spirit in positive ways that make you feel good, but does not harm others in the process.
There is beauty everywhere, even in the littlest things.
Oh I’m so glad you’re living vicariously through me…. great advice.
My advice: Surround yourself in beauty and always, yes always, accessorize!
Since I’ve seen some of your bling, I know you are on top of that agenda.
As an artist who also works part time, I find it hard to give anyone ‘advice’ on how to balance anything other than to live a life that makes you happy. Including a healthy lifestyle always makes a difference for me. It helps me concentrate as well as feel good about myself. When I feel good about myself, I am more confident. When I’m more confident, I don’t worry so much about what I create. When I don’t worry so much, it shows on the canvas. 🙂
Great grounding wisdom, perhaps advice is the wrong word, but finding the right energy is important for so many things.
Wow, so excited to check out the creative offerings of these talented ladies! (And a chance to win KF earrings? YES!)
How to balance it all?
Keep some dirt under your nails.
That was the perfect opportunity to plug “And be a volunteer at Food Love Project” if you are missing an opportunity to get dirt under your nails.
Thanks for posting about this, Erin! Can’t wait to see you all there 🙂
Thanks for the t-shirt 🙂
Exercise soothes the worried mind and makes it easier to balance the rest. Thanks Erin.
Can’t wait to get together and discuss this all!
Creative tour-de-force that you are 🙂
Butter and jewelry–what more could a girl want?!
Except maybe a local organic source of lard…..
Your comment made me smile, I have to agree butter and jewelry are indeed a great combo 🙂
This is an awesome group of women. I am so lucky to know most of them. They inspire so much that I do. Thanks for sharing!
I am looking forward to this event! And the giveaways are lovely 🙂
Art helps with balance. Taking the time to connect and notice beauty is the best inspiration in a hectic world :). Let’s all make art 🙂
This sounds intriguing! I’d love to check it out!
I think my favorite go-to activity for relaxation is crafting. That or a nice walk in our beautiful area!
The earrings are lovely! Aquamarine is my birthstone!
Cupcakes, make cupcakes. Decorate them with artistic abandon, savour them as the yummiest food out, and revel in the fact they make you feel good and soothe your soul. It doesn’t get more balanced than cupcakes!
This sounds like a fun event- and LOVE the diversity of the giveaways! grin!
As you well know, I am constantly striving to find that balance! Right this minute I need to find the floor before I can craft because it is overwhelming me!
Thanks to you, I’ve added kale to my diet nearly daily- so there’s a start!
Thanks for the chance….April 15th is my wedding anniversary- that’s sure to bring me luck in the drawing, right?
Sounds like a fantastic event, I wish I was a local so that I could attend!
I may have just had a convo about balancing things in our busy lives…
family first and love what you do.
when I go out and enjoy nature I do my best to laugh a lot, be goody and to always try to do something new or challenging. I have found that by doing this I feel less stressed and accomplished by all the new adventures I have tried.
We worry to much about what others think, instead we need to laugh off the mistakes and just be a goofy at times, its refreshing to act child like at times!
My favorite quote which you can insert for
Anything….”busy hands are happy hands”.
Balancing nutrition with life and art…
Feed you’re soul in most cases it will not steer you in the wrong direction. Victoria La Font has many insightful and innovative approaches to nouriahing ourselves .
Feeding your soul is great advice.
Beautiful earings 🙂 I think for me the key to balance in general is to stay present (which is harder than it sounds). Be aware in the moment (not thinking about the 100 things you still need to accomplish or the mistakes you made yesterday) so that you can enjoy what is right in front of you whether it is the art piece, your family, or your life in general.
Advice to balance art, nutrition and life:
Use the words “core and mindfulness” as often as you can.
The art show looks great, can’t wait to see it. Thanks for the post Erin
this event looks really fantastic! thanks for letting people know about what goes on in our community erin.
i actually follow the works of heather and victoria, and apply what i learn to my life. oil pulling, bone broth, and taking care of myself from the inside out.
Great Event — Great Women — Great Friends!!
I love this town!
Thanks, Erin
Thanks Shea, nice to meet your mom the other day. We look forward to having her stay with us later this year.
The only thing I can say about balance in life is everything in moderation – including butter! Too much of anything could be a bad thing. To have a full life, art is a must – either by creating or appreciating it.
Ceramic artist Beatrice Wood lived to be 105, and was working and creating until the end. She said “she owed it all to art books, chocolate and young men” – sounds like a balanced plan to me.
My family provides most of my balance and their appreciation of art seems to fill our home. Their advice to me is that the earrings would bring out the hazel in my eyes. As a father, I’m not quite sure what to do with that information. I do know that a happy wife is a happy life, so I have someone in mind for these, if chosen.
I share my husband’s e-mail address, so I hope that doesn’t cause any confusion….
Having survived cancer, nutrition has played a critical part in my sanity and my health. My artistic approach to gardening and cooking helps to me to provide balance in our home, our bodies and our hearts.
Lastly, I was born in March and aquamarine is my birthstone (nudge-nudge)
I love your giveaways Outside Inn!
“Balance” is not a real thing. It’s a concept we’ve concocted to give us one more thing to strive towards–another thing to “achieve.” We already run around with rules in our heads about what life should look like; now we’ve added another rule: life must be balanced. Instead of life consisting of a checklist of accomplishments, it can be a moment-too-moment existence in which we pay attention to the flow–actually feel what we should be doing in that moment and focus our attention there. Everything else will follow. Life wasn’t meant to be hard.
The key to balance for me is a happy home life and rewarding work life…and also to enjoy cookies every once in awhile!
Moderation in all things is the key. That and compromise which is kind of the same thing. Don’t go to extremes in nutrition, exercise, etc and be willing to compromise a little in your relationships.
Sounds like a fun event, Erin! And what a fabulous giveaway!
On balancing art, nutrition, life…
Be present and be true to yourself.
It’s so wonderful to read all these comments! Thanks to all who are participating 🙂
I work with someone who’s not a fan of the term “balance” but rather prefers “harmony.” Balance sounds rather boring… this coming from someone who often binges by staying up reading a good book, eating chocolate, or being reclusive in my studio. Yet all these situations feel harmonious in my life because I’ve laid a foundation of exercise and nutrition that give me strength and enjoy all the aspects of my life, from work to studio, friends, relationships, art, experiences, etc.
Each aspect ebbs and flows how much time and energy it consumes, so there isn’t “balance” per se, yet it sure does have a harmonious flow that I love.
Balance is a constantly moving target, a worthy goal and one hell of a challenge.
One of the many steps along the road…
Learn to say “no” with grace and without apology.
My thought on keeping balance is moderation. In life you can do anything in moderation, the same goes for nutrition, all things in moderation… Including moderation! Sometimes you have to splurge and live it up!! If you are living an authentic life everything is art. A healthy, beautiful balanced life is a work of art in itself…
Walk through the trees and slow down!
Breathing is my balance to life, also over indulging.
