Winter has arrived and there are so many amazing outdoor activities out our backdoor.  With a number of world-class ski resorts just up the hill from Nevada City (Sugar BowlBoreal, Homewood,  NorthstarSquaw Valley and Alpine Meadows) why not stay in Nevada City and go for a day of skiing.  If you’re looking for cross-country skiing try Royal Gorge, Auburn Ski ClubTahoe Donner Cross Country Center or the Tahoe Nordic Center.  While our family loves to go downhill skiing (photos below at Alpine Meadows), there are a lot of other great outdoor winter activities.  Thanks to local photographer Darrell Robinson for his great photos of snowshoeing at Castle Peak and Laura Hazelton, of Hazel Moon Photography, for the family fun sledding photos off Highway 20.  If you don’t have any snowshoes you can rent them at Mountain Rec and head up Highway 20.  And if the snow isn’t your thing, click here for some more outdoor adventure ideas.  Now who’s ready to go play in the snow?
