Nevada County Reads

Let’s talk about books.   Nevada County Reads and Writes kicked off this week, if you haven’t picked up a copy of this year’s book, Bryan Stevenson: Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, there are copies available at branch libraries, no library card required.  The community wide joint effort with Nevada County Libraries and Nevada County Superintendent of Schools was created to encourage people to read the featured book simultaneously  and participate in subject related school and community events.  The first of two book discussion will be at the Gene Albaugh Community Room on Thursday, March 10th, 5-6:30pm.  For a list of the all the events, click here, for details on the high school writing competition, click here.

If you’re looking to support the local libraries check out the Friends of the Library monthly book sale.  The sale is held the first Saturday of every month at the Doris Foley Library in downtown Nevada City from 9am to 3pm.  The collection of thousands of paperback and hardback books range in price from as little as 25 cents to several dollars.  Books are organized by popular fiction, children’s crime novels, nonfiction, travel and much more, you’ll never know what you might find.  All proceeds from the book sale go to help the Nevada County Libraries with books, media and as well as sponsoring the Children’s Summer Reading Program.  So who’s going to spent their weekend reading?  If you’re looking for more information on local bookstores in Nevada City and Grass Valley, check out this previous blog post.  Feel free to post a comment and share your love for books, any local authors you recommend?
