Chocolate and sweet treats, Nevada City, Ca

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, have you thought about how you’re going to celebrate?  There are so many great things to do, see, eat and buy for your loved one locally.

For the sweet tooth, you can buy DeGroot truffles from Nevada City Truffle Shop, chocolate covered strawberries from Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe, chocolate fondu or a sundae for two from Treats, a bar of Cello Chocolate, a cupcake from Emily’s Catering Pop Up Bakery, a s’mores kit from the Inn Town Campground or something sweet from Lazy Dog Chocolateria.

BriarPatch Coop is offering Deanna Figueira’s “The Alchemy of Chocolate” cooking class on February 13th is going to be amazing, you can learn how to make Mayan Chocolate Truffles.  The BriarPatch bakery is has the following specials through the 14th:  Wheat free Strawberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Covered Strawberries (hand dipped), Chocolate Raspberry Eclairs and Wheat-free Red Velvet Cupcakes.  Little Boy Flowers locally grown anemones and poppies will be at on sale at BriarPatch on 8th, 12th and 19th.

Foothill Flowers, in downtown Grass Valley, hand-picks flowers at the San Francisco Flower Mart for bouquets with gorgeous roses, tulips, orchids, lilies and much more.

There are some great local shopping options in Nevada City from My Favorite ThingsKitkitdizzi, J.J. Jackson’s, Gray Goose, Abstrakt, Judi’s.   Downtown Grass Valley offers gift options in Mint, Cult of Gemini, HEX, and Yuba Blue or maybe Awesome Toffee, Stained Glass Heart Bud Vases, Cards, Rose Bath Products from Gather & Mill.

Or perhaps you want to get creative and make your sweetheart something special. The Artist Workshop has Valentine’s Day pottery pieces and a few holiday workshops.  Or stop by Treats Cards and Cones event on Saturday, Feb 10th between 2-4pm.

If you’re thinking about eating out there are lots of great options in downtown Nevada City or Grass Valley to grab a bite to eat.  Nevada City Winery is having Wine Wednesday on the 14th with happy hour specials, plus the band Undercover, the $10 door fee will include gourmet cheeses and chocolate!  Sierra Stages is hosting a Theater by the Book at the Miners Foundry, on Wednesday the 14th.

The downtown Grass Valley wineries are hosting their Valentine’s Day Wine Walk on Saturday, February 10th from 4-7pm.  Stroll to the tasting rooms and get two complementary tastings at Avanguardia WinesLucchesi VineyardsSierra Starr Vineyards and Smith Vineyards.

Although I do love the gift that keeps on giving; whether it’s a local wine club membership, a CSA to a farm or a membership to the local Polly’s Paladar Supper Club.  Or maybe you want to give someone an experiential gift; a spot in either the upcoming Women’s Mountain Bike Clinic or the Ladies Glamping Yoga Retreat, a guided fishing lesson, an art class, a ticket to a local concert, Chef’s Dinner at Tess’ Kitchen.  Maybe this Valentine’s Day you want to book a trip for a future adventure (like a room at the Inn or a campsite at the Inn Town Campground).
