The KVMR Celtic Festival is currently happening at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley.  The slogan for the event is “Come for the music, stay for the magic” and if you’ve never been, it’s time to go experience the event first hand.  This year’s headling musicians include: Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac, McLean Avenue Band, Nuala Kennedy, Screaming Orphans, Runa, Hanz Araki Band featuring Colleen Raney and Cary Novotny, 1916, Tempest and A Thousand Years at Sea.  But in addition to those acts the festival also includes local and regional acts, a session stage where everyone is welcome to join and countless informal jam sessions throughout the festival.  While the multiple stages provide plenty of opportunity to enjoy Celtic music, the event also has a living history Scottish athletic games, marketplace, animals of the Celtic Lands, Kid’s area, workshops and parades, traditional dance and lots of great food and beverages.  For a full list of the schedule click here, festival gates are open Saturday 10am-10pm and 10am-8pm on Sunday.  Want to go?  I’ve got 2 passes I can share, post a comment here and I’ll email the winner at 10am on Sunday. (Edited to say that the winner is Todd Lawson).  And the winner of the Sergio’s Caffe giveaway is Ann Hobbs.KVMR Celtic Festival, Nevada County Fairgrounds, photos by Erin Thiem/ Outside Inn KVMR Celtic Marketplace, Nevada County Fairgrounds, photos by Erin Thiem/ Outside Inn

I just love this place! We moved here 8 or 9 years ago and this morning my 14 year old asked me why we moved here. I told her how I drove into town in the evening on our first visit. It was January and it had recently snowed. I drove up Broad Street and was instantly enchanted by the Christmas lights, the church steeple, and all the folks walking around in this cute little Victorian town.

We are so fortunate to live in a place with so many “nooks and crannies” with interesting people and events, and amazing scenery.

Thank you Outside Inn for helping us stay in tune with all of this amazingness!

It sounds like a great event. With a name like Maureen, you would think that I would have been to this Irish event. I am fairly new to the area so I haven’t been before, but I will have to check it out and hear the music and see all the costumes. I love this County!

I think it’s the best event, hands down, in the county’s long line-up of amazing events. There’s just the right mix of local and international, music and other-things-to-do, performances and participation, and surprises. Every year I spend an hour watching the birds of prey, get astonished all over again by how wonderful that dragon made of shovels is (and it breathes fire!), and find new music. Everybody’s happy there. It’s just lovely. 😉

Erin: Just back from Dublin as you know having seen the mother of Flo. I had a chance to participate in some Celtic events there as well but it sure looks like the event in Nevada City is fantastic.

I just returned from a two week vacation to Ireland and Scotland and someone told me about this event! We played music in the car to get us in the spirit before visiting a castle or distillery! There is something special about the beauty and history of the people there! I want to come to the festival and wear my new Royal Tartan Stewart skirt and continue the magic! Perfect timing to learn about this traditional event. Thank you Erin for always inspiring me to come back to Nevada City! I am working my way to be becoming a resident one day! When I do, Outside Inn is one of my favorite places to stay!
