Buttermilk Bend Trail, South Yuba River
Buttermilk Bend Trail along the South Yuba River, down at Bridgeport Covered bridge is one of those spring walks you just need to do while the wildflowers are out. I’ve promoted the hike here, here, here and here, but finally managed to make it down the other day. The Western Redbuds have already bloomed, but the poppies and lupine are still out. In honor of Earth Day this week I thought it was a good time to remind people of the beauty we have in our backyard. If you have time tomorrow SYRCL is hosting a free talk about the “State of the Yuba” at the Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley, click here for more details. And there’s still a little time to tell your local representatives about saving the Bridgeport Covered bridge, click here for details. The South Yuba River State Park Association has guided hikes along the Buttermilk Bend Trail on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am for a few more weeks, click here for a details map of the wildflowers. One of my Nevada City postcards captures this trail, so for those of you’d like a set of 5 Buttermilk Bend postcards, please post a comment on this blog post and I’ll draw the winner on Satuday, April 26th (prize can be mailed).
The Buttermilk Bend Trail will always have a special place in my heart. It was my first hike and taste of wildflowers, led by a docent on Easter Sunday three years ago, and I have been hooked ever since!
It looks beautiful! We may be up again in June for a day and this would it looks like this would be a great hike to do! I’ll rewind to your other posts about this to check for details on length and kiddo appropriateness. Thanks Erin!
We have so many beautiful places right in our own back yard. I enjoy “mini” vacations that take only a couple hours and you can see a lot of beauty in that time all around Grass Valley.
I love the buttermilk trail! We are going right now actually!
The Trail is such a beautiful and accessible place to enjoy the scenery and spring flowers. I haven’t been in a while – thanks for the reminder!
So beautiful! I am looking forward to going there soon!
Bridgeport is one of my favorite local spots! Haven’t been there for quite awhile…. sounds like a good time to check it out again!
your posts keep me outdoors
Hopefully this rain will extend the season just a bit. Not sure when I will make it out, but if the flowers are faded, there’s always the river.
I was just there a couple weeks ago, there were hundreds of butterflies flitting around! And there were tons of those oak tree caterpillars swinging in the breeze from every tree, it was like an obstacle course!
Looks like we have weekend plans to go to buttermilk trail! Thanks for another great idea 🙂
Such a great place to get outside with the kids!
I agree! And even if you miss the window for the flowers, a great family friendly location to enjoy the river.
